!#$% engine service light
!#$% engine service light
I got the engine service light when I cleaned the throttle body recently, but I disconnected the negative and it cleared. Last night I pulled the MAF loose from the throttle body to get at the fuel filter better, and also undid the plug in front of the MAF. Well, I started the car to check for leaks with both still undone, and the car ran. Then I put the plug back on and the car stalled. OK, I put everything together again nice and tight, and the car roars like a sunofab*!ch, but the light stayed on. No problemo. I disconnected the battery again for about 8 hours, and even undid the positive since some people say there could be an ECU ground elsewhere. Well, the idiot light is still on, even though the car is running stronger and faster than it has in a long time. I hate it when low gigawatt machines try to be smarter than us.

if you unplug the MAF sensor when the car is on, the light will turn on and wont turn off until you reset it.

Yep ... but shouldn't disconnecting the battery for 8 hours reset it?

I've heard several people say that disconnecting the battery didn't seem to reset their ECU. I would just follow the instructions at the bottom of this page and call it a day... http://www.vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html

remove the cover thats over the ecu. get a lil flat tip screwdriver and turn the screw all the way clock wise and hold it for 2 sec, then turn it all the way back. you should see the CEL blink, telling you the MAF code. Now repeat turning the screw clockwise 2 sec, and back again. when when you start the car it should go away. I hope I got that right
