PICS- My custom hood prop

my hood struts have been blown for years now and I always had to use a piece of wood to hold up the hood since I never felt like buying new struts. I finally went out and bought some material to make a custom hood prop. anyways, here are some pics. It cost about $10 and a couple hours of work. This may be good for all you CF hoop ppl I guess.

really? I went to this place and they were like $19 each strut. Oh well, at least I dont have to worry about the hood falling on my head so im happy.

I like your Idea, thats pretty cool. Is that a radio antenna of sorts? Does it bend a little when holding, cuz that doesnt look to stick to hold it up rather easily...How do you guys keep your engine bay cleaner then a baby's butt?

BTW, I like that sig pic. What kinda drop is on the rear max?

some kind of bracket could be glued on to give the prop something to rest against. i think its a good idea for CF hood owners.

I havent seen how the underside of a CF hood looks like yet but you can cut the rod to any length which means that if I would have cut it shorter, you would be able to hold the hood up from the side rather than the middle like I have it.

gtr_rider: its a .25" thick piece of billet alluminum rod I bought from OSH for about $6 for a 4 foot length and it will not bend. the hood would probably dent before that rod will bend. I also put a rubber cap at the end so it doesnt scratch anything.

The drop in that other max is from AGX/GC and its about a 2" drop, maybe a lil lower in the rear.

I was also thinking about mounting some sort of bracket under the hood for the prop to rest on but it seems to be stable enough and will not accidentally come loose but Ill think of something later.

Dude you should yank the old hood struts now...
1. They don't work, so:
2. You don't need them
3. They're dead weight
4. Looks funny with the custom prop *and* struts in there.

Knowhutimean?

That is a very good idea. I need to do something like that instead of having to use my Sherwin Williams paint stick.

hey,
is your car an automatic? It's hard to tell since you have the shifter boot and all but I think i see a botton on the shifter

Still looks cool

and about the hood struts, my dad sticks anything in reach to hold the hood up on his 87 Sable Club, empty anti-freeze container, piece of wood, a freaking brick lol.. thank god my struts are working.

NIsmo and Iilac have the same sig..lol

Cool mod.. but i think that is not a safe a struts... The tip looks lke it barely has a groove to go in.. Not very safe considering that a good blunt hit to the back of the head isnt cool..

same pic, different angle

its very safe considering that the turnbuckle will only allow it to move side to side and that the prop has resistance and stands up on its own which means that it doesnt rely on a groove in the hood to keep it from falling down if you know what I mean.
