Manual Stick or Automatic

What is better???? I have a 2002 SE with automatic, I never drove stick before in my life and I was wondering if the next car I get, I should get a stick.
Just compare and contrast the two

Glad to see you edited it. I think that was a little too much. Maybe if the dead horse was a cartoon figure but as a real horse it was nasty.

it all depends on how you drive, most would have a stick if they could (me included), but not everyone has that luxury

Like mattattax said is true, but with your auto if you do light to light jaunts you will be able to beat 85% of the manual drivers. Most manual drivers dodnot know how to get the most out of them!

STICK VS AUTO

Most of the org members either have manual trans or the ones with auto's wives wouldnt let them have a stick or they do lots of stop and go drivig....nothing would stop me from choosing a stick over automatic.

If you guys want a sports car go and buy a SPORTS CAR but don't buy a family sedan with a manual transmission and think you have one. You couldn't pay me to have a manual transmission again.

Maybe I don't want a SPORTS CAR. Maybe I want a vehicle that can carry more than one passenger, but doesn't bore the **** out of me.

I don't have anything against manual transmissions. If you guys wanna work while you drive thats up to you. However, I don't like the attitude of the manual guys thats pure BS. Every time I hear a comment about autos I am going to return with an appropriate stupid remark about manuals.

we are not the ones with sigs like yours. besides, i feel like im in more control of the car when driving manual, not just pushing the gas and brake. people have different preferences, so why bash? i didnt say anything bad about autos. some autos are quick anyways.

I didn't have an attitude when I joined Maxima.org it was developed because of the attitute towards autos by manual trans guys. I didn't start this but I sure hate when it just keeps cropping up. I did not say all manual transmission people are like this just some and when they comment I will return likewise, I call that justice or *** for tat or whatever you want to call it. I am not trying to start a war but loose lips sink ships so keep em tight or I will call u one it. That is my last comment on the subject unless someone else wants to bash autos.

Re: Manual Stick or Automatic

IMSO ( In My Stupid Opinion ):

It's a matter of personal preference or need ( like in being married ).

Why not rent a stick, screw around with it, and see if you like it. They're a lot of fun, except in heavy traffic...

Geez...some people need to chill. This is just the Internet, who cares what other people think

Anyways, I prefer stick.

I'm an auto enthusiast. I love lots of cars (and not just Maxima's), I love driving, and I like to feel like I'm involved with my driving, and stick gives you that vs. the disconnected feel of an auto. Additionally, I like the added responsiveness of a stick (no torque converter to sap power away), and the extra ratios ensure that you can put the engine in the powerband no matter what speed you're at. One of the things to also appreciate about stick is that manual tranny's are able to put a good bit more power to the ground than an auto. If I had an auto I probably would have gotten burned by the GS-R that I raced briefly today but instead I burned him because I have stick

My Accord V6 was auto (only came in auto) and it was a great car, but just incredibly boring to drive for me.

Oh yeah, the gf/soon-to-be-fiance was sorta silently pushing for an auto again since she can't drive stick. That's partly why I got an auto last time, so that she could drive it too. This time I said to hell with that, though. I want my stick baby! She hardly ever drove my car anyways, and she's getting her own car (with auto) soon too.

I'm glad I'm back in a stick again

I think with the exception of a few (Don in Texas primarily), people don't know how to drive their autos fast. And then they complain that their cars are slow, and the mods that they add don't seem to help. That's what makes me laugh.

I have it bad... being ragged on b/c 1-auto, 2-vg, 3- 3rd gen... I understand its slow.. But I thought that owning a maxima is a luxury itself.. not the speed...although i wouldnt mind having a car that can "Perform" like others... But sadl that is not the case... But i still represent the Maxima community.. we trash talk about other car makers, but we also trash our own.. i would like to own a manual trannie... Truth is city driving is not good for the car.. That was one of my concern.

Manual or Auto... Its your life.. do what you feel is right... want power and the feel that your in control, and also get the sporty stuff get the manual...

Want to just relax and feel the luxuary with out having to worry about burnt clutch or fly wheel..

either way you are trading one thing for another...

So lets stop the trash talk to one another.. Who cares.?

if this is any help to your decision, why not rent a manual maxima and compare what you like..live with it for like a week ...if you can.. then decide weighing your options...

But you get what you pay for...
