Why can shops sell illegal tint if its illegal?

I have been reading posts about different tints on this forum. WHy is it that tint shops can sell tints at 20%, 3%, 10% if they are all illegal in the state. In INdiana, i believe the legal limit is 35%, but you can have it on all windows except the very front window. I know limosine services may require tint, but i would think the limo services would provide that service. Just wondering

thanks

because they want your business, and that law is applied loosely in most states.

Sorry, need to fix something

i got this info from the following website
http://www.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/

Indiana
30% Film / 30% Film / ANY / 30% Film / 1995
Note : Darker tint is allowed for medical reason only as attested to by medical doctor or eye doctor.
Enforcement Note : Out-of-state motorist can be ticketed for being in violation of IN tint law but are usually left alone. Law enforcement usually enforces the tint law on the front side windows. Most law enforcement do not know that the rear-back window is included in the law. Some local towns will fine motorist $200 for violation as well as requiring them to fix it.

Hmmm ... weird. That site might be out of date something. It says NY doesn't allow tint anywhere, but on http://www.tintdude.com , it says the amount of tint for NY is:

Visor - 6"
Front doors - 72%
Rear doors - 72%
Back window - any

Some shops make you sign papers agreeing that you know its illegal to drive with the tint you just purchased.

P.s. Full 5% OwnZ Me

As long as you sing a wavier that says that you know its illeagal to use on the street. And is for off road use only, AKA Drag Strip or something like that, they will put it on. After all they dont care, they just want your cash.

it's not illegal for everyone (medical reasons, different laws depending on the state, "off road" use, etc)

...the same way shops can sell pipes that eliminate pre cats, blue headlights, headlight covers etc. Its not illegal until its on road, thats why most the products have "Off road use only" to cover the manuf.'s butts. Also, with tints, it may be illegal on a sedan, but in most caes a SUV/truck can have its rear windows blacked out entirely .Besides, many tint shops I know do tint for buildings. Whats someone gonna say? You can't have 5% tint on the windows of your house?

the same reason "smoke shops" sell marijuana smoking material (a bowl). Or should I say "Tobacco pipe"

because people actually smoke tobacco out of them,

Does this mean that we can have 28% tints? Is that dark?

I had 35% in front and 20% in the rear. Never got any trouble about them. So I had legal tints in front, illegal tints in back.

Another good site about tinting laws: http://www.statetintinglaws.com

the 72 means that you can only have 72% tint which is very very light.

When I got mine done they just took the cash and I didn't have to sign anything. I guess it's not possible to enforce because it would require a cop at every tint shop to inspect the tint as the car leaves and there are worse problems in the world than people driving with windows that are tinted too dark.

I think black is the best on a black max. 35% is the lightest I would go but it will still look real good. 20% would look great but might get you in trouble with the cops depending on where you live.

Laugh. Here in Seattle (especially in the suburbs outside of Seattle), they LOVE to pull people over for tint, cracked windshields, liscense plate lights out, bald tires, etc...

They have plenty of time on their hands.

Unless there's a riot going on!

I have a black max with 20% which look's excellent according to me.I know a dude with 5% but that is too extreme as you cannot see out at night.

72% my a$$ better put your tint money elsewhere or move.

I think they can still sell it because they are selling it, ossuming it's for OFF ROAD USE.
Just like all these radical colored bulbs, super loud mufflers and stuff which aren't legal anywhere in the US on the street... you can just use it for show or something..

good choice, 20% is a good amount of tint. If you drive around at night, anything lower than 20% makes it real real hard to see out. If you don't have your sunroof open, it looks real dark froma distance.

The shop I go to wont tell you they will do it, you just have to tell them what you want, and if its illegal, they just tell you they can not give you a receipt for it. That way if you get pulled over for it, you cant prove that they did it, or they can get shut down.
