What K&N filter doI need with hybred intake (PR upper section)

There is currently a group deal for the Place racing upper piece through Cattman.

After the Monsterflow vs K&N thread, I am not convinced that the Monsterflow will filter as effectivly as the K&N. So what K&N filter do I need to work with this setup? Would it be the same one you would use with the full CAI or something bigger because there is more room under the hood than in the fender well? A part # would be great and if someone knew a place with a good price that would be even better.

Are there any other parts I need to make this setup work? What would be the advantage of using the JWT pop charger with the PR upper section?

I would recommend that you also need some sort of venturi. The hybrid setup puts the filter right on top of the MAF, like the POP filters, so flow will be allover the place thru the filter. the Venturi helps to straighten the flow. Currently, only the JWT and Stillen intakes have venturi, sometimes also called velocity stacks. Maybe get a used stillen or JWT, so you have the filter and venturi all in one.

Would the Monsterflow filter, with it's vanes, help with the straightening of the airflow with the filter so close to MAF?

Does the Frankencar intake use some sort of venturi?

Don't know if Frankencar's have venturis, but the monster vanes would help.

I was looking at the JWT pop on Custommaxima, it doesn't look like much more than a filter to me. I guess the venturi thing helps and the new design looks like it will flow good, but it doesn't look like much for $100+. Is it washable like the K&N? I guess I will have to decide quick since the GD is almost over.

The venturi is there, it's hidden inside the filter. To get a better view, look at Jim Wolf's page, the venturi is the silver dish;

I didn't doubt that the venturi was there but the venturi does not look like much to justify the $100 plus cost of the Pop intake when a K&N cone filter can be had for ~$40. Is the little siver dish worth over $60 or is there some other reason the pop costs that much?

With the PR upper section plus JWT Pop charger the price is close to that of a full CAI

BTW - This isn't a private conversation between me and DW, anyone else can feel free to jump in

simple solution. buy the CAI, then you have all the piping to use when it's hot outside and you can take it off when it's not. btw, i have the monsterflow, and i haven't had any problems....

we use a regular cone filter with maf adapter. HOWEVER TWO DIFFERENT members had stillens on top of the frankencar and switched to out filter and said the car felt better without the venturi, the added length of the mid section might help. now about monsterflows, i never would have called them like yesterday or anything. i will redyno and see.

Check out these filters (sold at lots of places) www.sbfilters.com

Download their application PDF file and you can see they have an interesting Monster Filter with a funnel on the end, and a Velocity Stack filter with a velocity stack (not a venturi) that slides in and out of it.

One place that sells them (with some pics) http://www.autophysics.com/index.html
