A night to remember.... (very long)

So my clutch has been slipping for a while now.. and it has been getting worse and worse..

On driving to the train station today.. i noticed it took about 60 secs before the car would move in 1st Gear..

Coming Home

So i move off ok from the train station and i am heading home.. i get on the highway and i get to exit 25.. i get half way up the hill and guess what.. the car doesn't want to go anymore.. yes .. THE CLUTCH IS NOW GONE

After 30 mins of trying to push the car up the hill to the gas station.. i was not succesfull i kept trying to stop motorist but of course.. a black man in a dark area.. why would you stop.. and i don't blame them..

So this Black Guy about early 20's driving an 99 Alty(yes i know the all red tails) decides to help me out so i tell him i am trying to push the car to the gas station because the car isn't registered and if the cops come i am ****ed.. so we both try to push it up the hill and no go.. he tells me he has a buddy with a tow truck and he will call him to come tow the car..

State Trooper comes up behind.. so i try to talk to him.. keep cool.. not to act like i am hiding anything.. hoping he doesn't notice the car isnt registered and i don't get it impounded.. so i let him know the deal with the clutch.. and i told him the tow truck was coming.. he was cool.. and decided to go talk to the other guy to see if the see if the stories matched up.. and of course they did.. i wasn't lying..

So anyway.. the guy calls his friend.. and he even tells me he is going to cover the tow .. because i didn't have any cash on me.. i was happy.. he takes off and i get his number and tell him thanks.. I do plan to repay him more than the tow's worth in the future.. so the Trooper doesn't run my plates but he hangs out for a few.. he tells me he can't wait all night.. he was pretty cool about everything too.. i don't know if he ran my plates or not.. who knows..

The Tow truck comes.. and he takes me home.. i really appreciate all that was done for me tonite.. and i don't take anything for granted.. i got the Tow Truck guys number too .. i shall pay him back also.. The Tow Truck guy told me that since my tags are just expired for 2 months.. they wouldn't impound the car.. they would just let me tow it home.. unless i was being a **** to the cop or something..

So now my car is sitting outside at home.. waiting for a new clutch.. hopefully i can get it by next week and do the install..

and thus ends my lovely night..

feel free to flame as you wish..

How come you are trying to squeeze the clutch life so much? How come your tabs are dated? I hope you got your clutch parts on order already.

Glad that someone helped you though. Nice to hear people do good deeds still.

Jan 2002

but the funny thing is.. the 2002 and 2004 stickers are the same color

and Jan looks like Jun and Jul and part of the plate holder is covering the sticker..

so i am guessing he might have saw yellow nad thought 2004? or saw Jan and thought Jul or Jun or he just was mad cool and did'nt care..

I'm glad to hear everything turned out well. Count your blessings, things could have ended up much worse. However, if you had an auto you wouldn't have had any trouble to being with.

Hey Sprint what state are you in? If I ever see your car on the side of the road, I'll stop, harass you, call you a hilarious mother f****r, probably a few other arrogant remarks and, satisfied with your humiliation, reveal my identity and give you whatever help you need for making me laugh all these times here on the Org.

Reminds me of a situation years ago, I was in my tricked out Toyota 4x4 (dual torsen differentials, like the Quaife, and a 5,000 lbs winch) and I come across a guy in a big ol' Dodge Powerwagon, stuck up to his doors in mud. I woulda pulled him out for free, just for the laugh of my little 4-banger rescuing his beast; he already claimed some American muscle 4x4's had given up. Well, he offered me $40, since no tow trucks were going to go offroad to get him (he was maybe 100 feet from the highway, in plain sight) and he insisted so I agreed. I got the PW out of there and he said he was going home for the money, even told me where he lived nearby. Well, after I got done cleaning and coiling my steel cable 20+ minutes), he hadn't come back, so I went by his place and he was washing his truck! Stupid of him to diss me and give me the right address ... he acted all embarrassed, like he'd forgotten already. I collected. If he'd been polite or said he was broke, I wouldn't have cared.

one time a friend and I saw a guy stuck on the road.. we get out to help push and so did a guy that was next to him. when we pushed the car, the idiot didnt get inside to steer, he just held the wheel with the door open while he was pushing. there were 3 of us pushing, we didnt need his help...
well to get to the point, we almost pushed his car into this big telephone pole lol.. while we were pushing he had to turn left and he didnt have it cut enough and came like 2 feet away from it. imagine filing that with your insurance company? "who was driving the car?"

yeah I guess if they continually insist(personally I wouldn't), but the guy talked to said that the guy dude asked for $10 after he gave him the jump...in that case though I think he just got taken advantage of cause he was a foreigner!

You make a good point, we shouldn't take for granted the benevolence of total strangers. The strange thing is we seldom find ourselves in situations where we can't handle things on our own: cell phones, AAA, etc.

In my Volvo days I broke down in Middlebury VT. I wanted my car towed to a shop in Rutland but since it was Sat. nite they wouldn't be open until Mon. I had to wait until someone finally stopped and drove me to a pay phone and back. No cell back then for me. Anyway, it was October and no motels were available because of all the leaf peepers from NY, NJ and MA. The tow truck driver dropped my car off at his shop and then we were sitting in the truck with it idling in front of the bus station cause I was gonna take a bus to NY on Sun morn. I was like WTF this guy isn't saying anything. Finally I ask him what the plan was. He said I can't leave you here with the bus station closed. I told him you can't wait here all night! Then he gave me the keys to a car at the shop and said I could sleep in the car and run the heat, and just leave the keys under the floor mat when I leave the next morning and walk to the bus station. Man, that's VT friendliness for you. Sure, maybe it could happen in Philly, but I tend to doubt it.

ouch.

my clutch is gone too... although it's not COMPLETELY gone so I went ahead and ordered an ACT from phuong... my clutch is about two days away from utter death. I'm actually surprised how quickly it fails once it starts to go, i thought it'd be more prolonged.

ah well... clutch should be here friday. nissan wants ~$460 to install the pig =(

btw - stock clutch with 90k

Like some of the others have said. It is really cool that those guys helped you out like that. Most people just keep on driving without even considering helping out. There arent a lot of people left like that so its good to find a few that are. Take Care

Hey Sprint, usually when you post links, they SUPPORT your decision/opinion/etc. Oh well, it'll just give me another reason to harass you when I find you on the side of the road because of a dusted clutch. Happy trails!
