I kind of like the M45.

It is not very pretty, but I like those sort of BigBoss image cars.

If the next Maxima is based on that, then we can get 340 hp for well under the infinite price.

Re: Does the 03 Max have anything to do with the M45?

Nothing in common

New '04 Maxima will be FWD, with the same engine (VQ35DE) as the current Maxima and Altima. Shares platform with the new Altima.

The M45 will be using the 4.5 V8 and is RWD. Completely different.

BTW, I've seen the new Maxima and I can tell you it looks nothing like the M45

Sorry, I can't ... work confidentiality. It'll be unveiled in a few months anyways, so just be patient. Even thought it's a 2004 model year, it'll go on sale in 2003. The wait isn't that long.

I personally like it

I wonder why besides the obvious why Nissan is cutting the 5th gen production back down to a 4 year cycle. The 3rd gen had a 6 year and 4th gen had a 5 year cycle?

Every Nissan Dealer I talk to says the 2003 is going to be RWD and a V8.

WTF?

Per my contacts, the 03'04 Maxima will be RWD, have a V8, and be going against the Avalon. The the M45 is the size of a Avalon. I have a feeling that is our Infinity side of the Maxima.

Sorry but the 03 or 04 Maxima is not going to be a FWD.

Sorry guys, there are no actual pictures out yet. My Nissan contacts usually let me know about them. The car isn't even fully assembled yet.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Does the 03 Max have anything to do with the M45?

My opinion is that they are cutting down the life cycle of the 5th gen Maxima because Maximas are still being imported from Japan and it is a lot cheaper and easier to make it in Smyrna's assembly plant. That's my guess. Also, many people feel the styling of the 5th gen is 'ugly' ... I odn't think it's that bad but I'm a fan of the 4th gen look personally. If Nissan is going to overcome the competition, they need to take dramatic action ... and that they are doing.

Iansw, I think that your dealer contacts are wrong ... how would they know anything when even Nissan hasn't released info on the 04 Maxima?

If anyone wishes to speculate whether it's going to be a FWD 3.5 or a RWD 4.5, go right ahead. It adds to the suspense anyways

And Russ, you're correct ... there are no pics on the new Maxima yet - and why are you talking to yourself?

No, they said the 03 Maxima was going to be a new body style and RWD.

They also claim that the 02 will be the only year with the 3.5L Engine. The 03 will be RWD and a V8.

If your dealer is saying that the 03 Max is gonna be RWD w/ a V8 ....

hold on
ROTFLMAO

And the 02 is the only year the Max will have the VQ35DE
hold on again
ROTFLMAO again

Ask your dealer to vouch for it on paper that the 03 will be RWD V8 ... I hope he's not a friend of yours ... that way you won't think any less of him when you find out he's wrong

Think about it .. why would Nissan throw in HIDs and add a 6spd manual late in the 2002 model year if they're gonna replace it in 03 with a RWD V8? Won't happen .... does that mean that the Infiniti I35 will also become a RWD V8 in 2003? Doesn't make sense to me. Peace

Let's look at the facts and what is practical...Nissan has already announced that the next Maxima will be built in the US along side the Altima. So it will not be the M45...

The new Nissan SUV is being built on the Altima platform as well and will have the same VQ engine we all know and love. This new SUV will be FWD and 4WD as an option.

Based on these facts straight from the horses mouth, my guess is that the next Maxima will obviously be on the Altima platform contain the same engine it has now but with more HP. AWD is a possibility but not likely and the V8 is not likely but would be very nice.

If it stays FWD I am not buying the Maxima when the time comes, I'll probably buy the G35 or something from some other brand. This is the most powerful FWD car I've owned and I am not enjoying it as much as I would like too, the engine deserves a RWD platform. My past cars have been 300ZXTT Supra T and a 5L Mustang so I am very partial to RWD cars.

You don't have to dis on me about it. I've seen several people confirm that information on this board.

I haven't personally seen this car or even know what it will look like. I haven't personally seen a spec sheet.

I'm actually a little ****ed that 3 SEPERATE dealers confirmed this with me. If it's a lie. Which is probably true, I suppose.

I went to go look at an 02 6-speed, and without me saying anything, 2 dealers at 2 dealerships said "Well, the depreciation value of the 02 will be low because it will be the only 3.5L Maxima, as the V8 and RWD are coming out next year, making the '02 a rarity and eventually a collector's item of sorts."

I hate dealers.

I'm not trying to diss you, please don't get me wrong. I'm dissing the dealers. Plus, I like your car coz everytime I look at it, it reminds me of mine

No hard feelings 'k?

Please go up to the dealer and ask him, "I thought you said it was going to be a RWD V8?"

Peace

That's funny. I have facts straight from the horses mouth saying its going to be RWD and have a V8. They have been saying this for 1-2 years now. Been in the Nissan world since 1996, and have lots of contacts at Nissan (even though my warrantys get ****ed), they are normally 95% right on what info comes out on the car. Alot of people didn't believe me about the 5th gen, info when it came out, that changed there minds. Same goes for the new one.

Seriously, the 6th gen Max WILL be based on the new Altima platform (and the upcoming Quest minivan replacement) and not any RWD platform- Nissan has already stated this several times in official announcements. It should be noted though that the Altima platform is capable of handling an AWD variant- there's plenty of space under the rear end for a differential and half shafts. As to the V-8, well, time will tell.

Guys, 2 years ago at Maxus, we had a few folks that came from Nissan NA.. They then said,

Nissan will bring the Z Back

Nissan will have a V6 IN a Altima

Nissan will make a Fullsize pickup

SuperCharge the Fronteer

Maxima will Get Bigger, with a Rear wheel Drivetrain, They were unsure about V6 or V8

They said Infiniti will Seperate their cars from Nissan Lineup (looks wise, Few body parts being shared)

so on So On

I say, Forget the Maxima, Where's the R-35 GT-R

Hello Russell,

Yes it has been a long time since we have talked. We have a lot of changes to talk about, but I will sum them all up for you in a few lines.

Basically the new Maxima will be out for 2004 model year, but in early 2003. The 2003 Maxima model line will be cut short to allow the 2004s to hit the dealers. The looks of the Maxima will look very different from anything you or anyone has seen before. You know how we like to really make an awesome design! Expect the new Maxima to have a RWD model, with the same V8 that powers the current Q45, expecting to be around 340-350hp. 6 speed will be available with a 5 speed Automatic/Gated Sequential SportShift. The car will also be equipped with 18" wheels to meet the demands of the handling this car will produce. We expect this car to go up against the BMW M5. Yes you heard me right, that is what we are designing the car to compete against. Of course the car will have all the luxury features inside the cockpit, from NAV, to leather, heated seats, heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, rear sunshade and possible rear recliner/heated seats.

The frame of the engine will be based on the Altima platform, stretched to meet the size of the new car. It will be similar to the Z platform and suspension design when looking from under the car. We expect this car to sell for near 35k loaded.

Also the new Z if you haven't heard will have a convertible model for 2004! You want to get an awesome coupe, get that! Oh yeah, your in Texas, might get hot for that!

I hope this helps in your Maxima information hunt you asked about. Just please remember to not give out my name or info when telling others about this.

Keep in touch man, glad to help your site www.b15sentra.net and www.5thgenmaximas.com out for info. I browse a lot on the forums and really like your sites and what you have done for the community. It in a way has helped the sales I am sure for Nissan!

Thanks,

So because you work at a dealer and we know how dealers always get the **** for info, think you know more than a few of us? Okay, whatever boy. Go back to your dealer boys.

my thought

I started this thread, and I'm gonna end it before it escalates to a silly level.

After carefully reviewing and anylyzing all the facts and other non-factual factors, I have decided to believe that the next generation Maxima will be a V8 and RWD.

Some of the factors are.

1) Nissan is trying to mount a very strong comeback. It wants to distinguis itself. Nissan is basically screaming "There is no other company like us in the automotive industry".

2) Charles Ghoson is a very aggresive and radical guy. Who would've thought that the Altima would get a 3.5 liter V6?
99% of other companies would've just dropped a bread and butter 3.0 V6 into the Altima.

3) The Altima platform CAN be used for rwd. If it can be adapted for AWD, then making it into a rwd is no big deal. Real Easy.

4) The Maxima is the Nissans' flagship. I mean, it's a M A X I M A. Nissan knows that a Maxima has to be special. There has to be some sort of an incentive to buying a Maxima over an Altima.

5) In order for the Maxima to be a true performance sedan, it has to be rwd, and Nissan knows it too.

6) Hey, the Nissan rep at the Maxus said it too. Everything else he said about Nissan came true.

7) Gut feeling. I just know that the next Maxima will be world's apart from the current Maxima and the rest of the competition.

I really hope I'm right.

Yes I was at Maxus in DC last year and the Nissan guy mentioned that V8 possibility with RWD for Maxima, but who knows, it can change, but if it gets awd, that would be really nice. He had to talk to me, I was there sitting with him under his booth to get some shade.
