Throttle jammed! Warning!
Throttle jammed! Warning!
I was getting on the freeway last night and a couple of Hondas looked like they wanted to cut me off, so I played with them making the left and then floored it on the onramp. Bye bye! But ... my throttle felt weird, like it had 2 stages, so I played with it and there was a definite hitch I could feel with my foot; not good! I got off at the next exit to pull into a gas station and the engine seemed to slow less quickly. When I popped the hood I was surprised to see the hose clamp on the throttle body, which was still tight, had somehow rotated so that the threaded barrel was interfering with the movement of my throttle! An easy fix, but potentially very dangerous. If the clamp had rotated any further, the throttle spring might not have been strong enough to return. Check yours!
I had the same problem.
I left my house one day and my throttle would only go down halfway. Now matter what I did, I could only get the car up to about 2000 RPM's. So I pop the hood and same thing. My clamp had come a little loose and got in the way of the throttle. Moved it, tightened it, and I was on my way. I can see the danger though if the throttle had made it's way past the clamp and then got stuck at full throttle or something. That could get a little hairy. My sister had her throttle stick wide open on her Trans-Am GTA one time. I think she panicked and ended up throwing it into park at 80mph!! Ouch.
