How long for the ECU to adapt to new mods?

How long for the ECU to adapt to new mods?
How long do you think it takes the ECU to adapt to any new mods? When you first add the Y-pipe or a CAI, does it instantly adjust to the new found power? I am just curious to see if the performance of certain mods gets a little better the longer you run with them in your car. Any thoughts?
