ex tra info

i remember a thread about the differences in Idler and Tensioner pullleys on V1 and V2's. so are they different and both applicable to the V2? what is the difference w/ rails or no rails? I'm SERIOUSLY interested in one for a 5th gen/3.25 setup. great idea!! i hope your R&D was thorough.
thanks anyone for info.

the tensioner and idler pulley are both different sizes on the V2. but i've heard u can swap them w/o much problems.

this is a V2 only deal because the V1 idler pulley is much bigger. The V1 tensioner uses the stock one.

the one with rails is slightly smaller than the one w/o rails. when i say slightly it's about .25 inch. you can order one/two your choice. i'm not going to force anyone to buy, but it's a good idea to take the weak link out of the equation by swapping both pullies.

R&D is just testing the unit on the car. so far so good. i'll even put on a 90 day warranty if anything fails within that time i'll replace for free.

You have the remedy.

Tensioner (w/rails) is 2" and idler (w/o rails) is 2.3". Yes, you can swap them.

Idler pulley on the V2 is what everyone melts.

Tensioner pulley (w/rails) is the one that melts. Idler pulley holds up well.

sorry $90 a piece is the best i can do. i wouldn't waste anyone's time and set a higher price and bumping it lower for the people who ask for a discount.

Dan, it looks like the BEARING in the tensioner is the same size as the bearing in the plastic pulley. Is this the case or is it a bigger bearing? I don't think the problem is the pulley being plastic but the fact that a bearing that size can't handle the the pressure required to keep the belt from slipping. Especially being that all of the pressure is on one whole side of the pulley at such a severe angle.I've been using a timing belt tensioner pulley from an ES300 and the plastic idler for over a year and a half. It has a larger diameter so I had to esentricate the holes in the tensioner bracket so it could be positioned back a little. As you can see in the pic it's all bearing. This thing is designed to handle a lot of tension. So now I can keep my belt nice and tight so I wont loose boost and don't have to worry about burnin pullies.

the bearing is the same size.
every bearing have a time before failure. it just depends on WHEN does it fail.
i would have to disagree with you on the platic part. the plastic is not a very good conductor of heat. heat is what kills the bearings. the cooler the bearing..the better the grease can stay in the races/seals, hence longer life of the bearing. look at the idler pulley for the V1 units. the pulley overall size is twice the size and the bearing in the middle is the same size compared to the V2.
the pulley that is being made is made out of aircraft quality aluminum. heat will dissapate faster with aluminum compared to plastic or steel. also the pulley was designed to have a replaceable bearing. if a few years down the road the bearings do fail..you can easilly pick up a new bearing and have it pressed in or you can send it back and i will have that taken care of for a small fee. the pulley itself would still be solid enough and not turn to a pile of mush.
i had to design the pulley so it will fit for everyone. i can't make it bigger on the chance that the belt might rub or any fitment problems.

just a side note for anyone that needs the insert (spacer) part from the tensioner pulley...
you must let me know if you do need it because the shop is now charging me additional $ for the piece to be machined.

Dang... I just ordered my two steel pulleys from ASP yesterday too... I hope it has all the parts necessary. At first Lee said that the Maxima Vortech was listed as a V5 or that's what he had down.

Does anyone here have the pulleys from ASP? How are they?

Max n Out these pullies are better quality pullies then the ones sold from performance specialties and I did not know that, so yes paying the extra $55 is worth the money, I messed up I did not know about these until I got an email from Kevin so yes get these instead I am SOL, I am stuck with these but if anything was to happen Ill at least replace them again down the road.
