I am mad...I need a 5 speed bad

It seems like my car makes plenty of power to hang with some fast cars, it just runs out of gear. I had a decent race with a WRX w/ 18 inch wheels from about 55, which is a good speed for me. I pulled on him about a 1/4 car till 3rd gear hit about 80mph, and then he preceded to walk me like I was standing still. The gearing of an auto max is way too broad for racing, I need a 5 speed swap bad, if only I had the money. With an auto, there is way too much space out of the power band. 0-20 is bad, 20-40 is good, 40-60 is bad, 60-80 is good, 80-100 is bad, 100-120 is good. You have to be careful when racing, cause if you get caught in the wrong gear, it can be awful. It kills me to lose to some cars because I am trying to represent the maxima community, and make us look good, but my car is slow. At least the guy with the WRX said nice car and gave me the thumbs up. With that being said, I hope to better my best time at the track tomorrow, but I think it will be too hot for good times.

I know how you feel. Check out my thread in this forum. I think my car is even worse. Btw, you are right about the gearing and got to choose to race at the right speed. If not, it seem like the car would just lag and don't have the same strong pull. Sucks I know.

I feel your pain...sort of. I haven't owned an automatic before, but I know how you have to pick and choose the speed so you downshift correctly. Have you ever thought about selling your car and just buying a nice 5spd instead of doing a swap?

No it won't. I have Don's VB and it doesn't help one bit. Butt dyno wise you think you're faster, but when you take it to the track...no improvement. Funny, I actually ran faster when I didn't have Don's VB.

I dont want to insult any of you auto guys, but if your primary concern was racing and speed, why in the world did you get an automatic?????

In my case, when I first got the car, I didn't know much about cars. I just wanted a reliable, comfortable, with decent power, good looks, and something my parents/silbings could drive too. Plus, I had no idea how to drive a stick shift at the time. I still can't drive it well because I'm used to the auto unless I have a chance to drive a stick day in and day out to get some experience. My next car will definitely be a stick shift, most probably not a Maxima either. Too bad I just can't do that right now financially.

He has the VB mod. I've driven his car, it's fast...but the gearing is still all wrong.

But, the 55-80 mph surge is great for making Hondas jealous on city streets

Would a 5-spd really matter? Youre picking o a car that's 7 years newer and more modern, and quick. That WRX with Prodrive P1's and 330mm brakes are gonna take you every which way but loose.

What the hell is the Maxima community? If it's a bunch of stupid street racers on their way to kill themselves and other innocent people then count me out.

Yes....you do. Yes.... you do.

About representing the Maxima community, I agree with Magellans general sentiment. Driving fast is one thing - driving or racing recklessly is another.

Its good to be able to beat someone out of your class but the autos are in a class by themselves. I always keep this in mind and others should too. Yeah, I've raced Sprintmax and lost but it was for fun. I've raced Medicsonic after he modded his GLE and he has kicked my butt too.

Autos will be autos (unless you do the 5 speed conversion) and 5 speeds will be 5 speeds.

I feel your pain and frustration. Last night I got beat by a..........well the type of car that beat me isn't important. The reason I got beat is because my damn auto was in 3rd gear at ~40MPH, had I been in 2nd (which is the optimal gear at that speed) I would have taken him.

it's not all about speed... 5 speeds are more fun or comfortable to drive to some and people swear by them, even people who don't race.

i wouldn't mind a 5 speed

I define innocent as the family in another car that gets wiped out when broadsided by a street racer's car. I define innocent as a group of children walking down the street and getting murdered in an instant by an out of control drag racer. How do you define it?

Just change the gear ratio

It can be done. You can make your auto pull better by numerically increasing the final drive ratio. Before you say how [search] .
