ATTN: All Ground Control owners and SCCA Solo 2 Autocrossers

First off I’d like to say congratulations for those of you have discovered the incredible thrill of Solo 2. Next, those of you with GC coilovers I was wondering what front and rear spring rates are you using? What struts are you using and how much is your car lowered? What do you think about the ride? What type of driving do you do {i.e. normal commuting or performance driving of any type}? Also what type and size of wheels and tires are you using?

I was thinking about 400 in the front and 450 in the rear, but I’m not sure that’s going to be enough. My friends at the OVR region are running 400 lbs springs on their 89-91 Civic Si’s. Which only weight <2400lbs. I’m also concerned about the struts. I’m not sure how what the maximum spring weight the KYB’s can take. I’m only going to lower the car ~2.5 in the front and 2 in the rear.

One question does any one remember what spring rates did Cattman offer with his coilover kits?

PS: Hey BEJAY1 you car looks a lot like mine right down to the TIRERACK.COM window sticker. Are you going to ******** Cones at Grissom in PERU, IN this weekend 5/5? I’ll be there on Sunday and it looks like a lot of good STS drivers are going to be there.

I'm using the default spring rate, 450# F and approximately 350 R. I say approximately because the rear spring is not labeled with the normal nomenclature and it is not clear what spring rate they use, and GC won't tell you. Of course, you can get whatever spring rates you like if you wish.

450 rear would make the car rotate well, but your ride will be ungodly harsh. My car is super harsh with my spring rates, though not as harsh as my civic was with 400lb all around. I am running on 17x7.5 Kosei K1s and 235-40-17 Toyo T1-S, I am down about 2.25" all around. At 2.25" of drop, I have about 1.25-1.5 inches of suspension travel with my KYB GR2s (AGXs were not available a year ago when I lowered my car), this is with bumpstops that are 1/4 of the original size, theres not a whole lot of travel to be had once you drop these cars.

PS I am thinking of going to Peru this sunday. I'm autoXing saturday as well, there is an autoX at my school in southwest michigan.

The spring rate is easy to figure out since it's part of the part#

http://www.eatricezone.com/images2/gc01.jpg

the one on the left is 0700.250.0400 and the one on the right is 0800.250.0300

0700 means it is 7" length
250 is 2.5" diameter
0400 is the 400 spring rate

I'm well aware of what the normal nomenclature is. The rear springs on the default spring rates on the Maxima GCs DO NOT follow the normal nomenclature. The numbers are pure nonsense. My front springs are 0700.250.0450 i.e 450 lb 2.5" diameter 7" long springs. The rears do not follow that format, and are something totally not decipherable. They are just a part number, no discernable logic to them.

Sorry, guys I can't make Peru Sun. 3hrs is a bit much for me. I'm still depressed about my 1st outing this year. 40deg and rain. Spun out on 2 of 3 runs - pushed too hard. I will be in Peru July 5-7th though. Good luck out there

P.S. I'll check around with other drivers as to their spring rates. I don't think Eibach publishes that for my Pro-kits.

Sweet I hope to see you there. Thanks for the info about the spring rates. I'm not really worried about ride quailty. The car will only be used on the weekends {going out and Solo 2}. I'll use my 89 Supra Turbo for my daily driver.

Do your Coilovers make a lot of noise or did you install the donut insulators as show in eatrices pic?

My rears make some noise. It sounds as if the rear strut tower mount bolts are not torqued down to spec, but trust me they are. I've torqued them exactly to spec dozens of times. It's just something I've learned to live with. I drive my car 35K a year delivering pizza in the city, as well as racing it. If I can deal with the noise I'm sure it won't be a problem for a weekend driver/autoX car.

Yea 3hrs is about my limit. That's about how long it take me to get to Peru form Cincinnati. Yea 40 deg and rain is no fun at all. Out of the 6 event I went to this year; 2 were nice, 1 was canceled because of lightining, 2 where ran in the rain, and the last changed to fun event because the wind was blowing the cones over.

Unfortunaly I won't be able to make the July Cendiv at Peru, because I have to attend a wedding.

Cendiv and Pro enevt are so fun. That's where you find out good you really are.
