LOL $268 speeding ticket

it wsa bull**** tho. the cop was literally standing in the middle of the street pointing at cars and telling them to pull over. he directed me around the corner, where i was in line behind like 6 other cars, where another cop was going down the line writing tickets. on the ticket it says "radar", but the cop obviously didnt have one. he wrote me down for 34 in a 15. i know cops are the good guys and theyre only doing their jobs, but this time it was pure bull.
im gonna try and fight it.

fight it bro...check this out...a copper once radar my bro goin the opposite direction....and we both knoe that one variable has to be still in order to get an accurate reading...if we have both variable moving of course he will get anyone for speeding...total bullshiet...

I think its going to be hard to fight it. Since the speed limit was 15 I figure that you were in a school zone. In a school zone, a cop can give you a ticket for going one mile over the speed limit and its hard to fight it. Good luck though.

I cop was driving towards me and radared me at 64 MPH in a 35 zone, I was going exactly 64 MPH too. I think the radar works when we are both moving.

It's simple, if the police officer is going the other way, all he needs to do it take the reading his gun gave him and subtract his speed. Therefore giving him a perfect reading of yours.

Depends on the type of radar used. . . I think the only type where it is necessary for the cop to be standing still is laser.

how can a cop arbitrarily write down a speed for me? like, how did he decide on 34 mph? i think he just did that to put me in the next pay bracket. im definatley gonna fight it. the situation was like this - i was making a left turn, in the left turn lane, and the car in front of me was going like 5 mph, so i made the turn wide, into the right lane. as soon as i did, the cop was right there, and he motioned for me to pull around the corner with the other cars. so 1. no posted speed limit right there, and 2. no radar detector. it was seriously a bull**** call. and im not joking when i say there were like 6 cars in a line in front of me, and as i was waiting for my ticket, a whole bunch more pulled in behind me. can you say "trying to fill a quota"?

That is correct. Radar can be in same direction, opposite direction, one lane over...radar has broadest range. But that is where it gets tricky. Distance, angle, and how many cars around? At a 45 degree angle and 800 ft (wish I could remember the formula vs just a "number") you have a very broad "slice" of radar image and its up to a "trained" officer to determine which car and if the reading is accurate. But since so little is fought in court, because it is just easier to pay the fine, it is very difficult to contest tickets because of the "established baseline".

Laser is a whole different ball of wax. They have to be stopped and traffic has to be coming towards them. If I recall (could be wrong I did this research a long time ago) laser (lidar) cannot clock going away from the patrol car. It cannot be parallel to the car.

$268 huh?? How about $320 for going 118 mph on I95 in CT?

Then I had to pay another $150 to restore my dirving privileges in CT. They couldn't suspend my NY license. NY licenses dont' take speeding tickets from any other state.

thats a good thing, cuz im from NY, and this ticket was in FL. so im gonna fight it, and if worse comes to worse, ill just drag it out as long as possible and not pay the fine. im moving back to NY in a little over a year. but from what you guys see, does it sound like i have a chance to win in court?

First off, fight it. But not by yourself. Get an attorney.

Secondly, cops do not have to clock you to write you for speeding. Even if they write you for a specific speed. During their training, cops have to be able to pinpoint a car's speed within a couple mph without a radar gun. If you can't, then you don't graduate the radar class. Radar is simply more evidence, but it is NOT mandatory.

Get an attorney.

if you write down that you want to contest the ticket on the thing they send you in the mail, then postpone your courtdate, the cop will almost never show up. if the cop doesnt show up, the charges are dropped. at least in MD. when i went to court, half the people got off like that.

Actually, here in TX, I believe that the law states that you can refuse to sign for a ticket if the cop won't take you to his car and let you see the radar reading on his little toy. If that happens, the ticket doesn't stand....of course, that's assuming you can get the cop to admit to refusing to show you your speed.

Were you required to restore the privelages or are you allowed to avoid CT. What's in CT (my folks live there)? How the heck does CT track your NYS license when even NYS doesn't on a ct violation?

I still don't understand the mentality when people do things wrong they want to get off. How is that different from dinging someone's door and not making things good, or scraping someone's car and driving away? Why not just do away with traffic violations altogether since they're all false accusations anyway?

A system is a system. I said that just a couple weeks ago I wasn't paying attention, changing a cd and not yielding immediately to an ambulance. The guy told me to pay attention and let me go. If he had ticketed me I'd pay the $94. C'est la vie.
