What is a valve body for a tranny?

All:

When I took my Max in for the 60K, I asked them to look at the transmission b/c it had about 200 miles left on the warranty. It has always been sluggish to change, and not very smooth, nor agressive. But now, it is even more sluggish, and non-responsive. So, they told me they ordered a valve body for it. What is that? And what does it do? They also said that if they have to work on the transmission, they warranty it up to 120K.

Does anyone know if the tranny needs to be drained to install this thing? I have not had that done yet.

Thx!

B

Yes, it has to be drained, since the valve body resides inside the transmission. Check this link, it's pretty informative: http://www.howstuffworks.com/automat...nsmission6.htm

The VB is what makes your tranny shift gears. It looks like a miniature maze with 5 solenoids that make the gears change. It also has the tranny filter attached. Yes you do have to drain the tranny to change it.

Yes, it directs the flow of transmission fluid that is under pressure to change gears.
