well just got my policy , 5,500 DOLLARs(us) for 1 year premium

ITs for a 2kmax GLE

anyway its because i got 6 points on my license and i live in New Jersey(#1 Insurance HIGH rates) and #1 Leader in Racial Profiling(facts)

anyway i know im not the only person with these problems.

If you can help drop me an email
I am already taking a Defensive Driving Course scheduled for september 17th(i think that counts for 2 point reduction), but would also like to know what else i can do?
Either i do something or my car stays garaged.

that's a infamous term in tri-state aera especially in NJ, cops tend to pull over and issue tickets to minority alot more often, it's proved by statistics.

Nope, never heard of that quasi-scientific term for what is just plain racism. Is window tint illegal there? Sorry that this has nothing to do with the original post.

Just to nitpick, statistics don't prove anything other than a correlation. They don't prove a causality or provide a reason or relationship. There are lies, damn lies, and statistics (and computer benchmarks...).

Roger, you don't want to hear this but......

I just took a course like the one you describe. This is seperate from the required NJ course you must take if you accrue more than 12 points on your license at any given time. I'm also in NJ. The course I took reduces the points on your driver's license, however, it will not affect your insurance premiums.

Insurance companies calculate your premiums based on your entire driving history, not just the number of points currently on your license. Points stay on your driving history for 3 years and 3 months. After a ticket passes the 3/3 mark, it drops off your record and your insurance should go down. Unfortunately, there is NO WAY to accelerate this process.

While I believe it's worth the $65 or whatever for the driving course, which takes about 6 hours of your time and truly does take points off your license, it will not save you any money off of your insurance premiums. I took the course because it was cheap, local, and hopefully looks good on my record.

If you'd like the information on the course, email me at jwengert@rcn.com and I'll dig it up for you.

Look on the bright side.

shooot

seems like quite a few ppl got ur prb tooo. my bro got 8 points so far. the only way you can lower your insurace is by getting a reall real cheap hoopty and get liability only, have your parents insure the maxima under thier name and just leave the hoopty by the curb and drive the max. that'll lower your rate by a whole lot but won't make it as low as a A++ grade insuranse. taht's the best u can do for now or u can call east wood. or dashers or something.. ohhh another way to lower the rate without changing companies is, register with your insuranse company somehwere else. say for example if u lived in CA it's good to insure your car at NAPA there's no cars there so no accidents and nothing for the insuranse company to sweat about so they lower the rates. but u gotta know a fried that lives there that is willing to forward the bill to u everymonth.

Yes, all of these 'alternatives' are also available but there are drawbacks. For example, if you get into an accident with the Max while it is insured by your folks and do more damage than the policy covers, your folks can lose their assets, have there wages garnished, etc. This is worse assuming your parents have more stuff than you :P

Also, if you register your car in another state that is cheaper, don't get into an accident or give the insurance company any other reason to start asking questions. Officially, this is considered fraud and the penalties are huge if you get caught.

The purpose of insurance is to assign risk to someone other than yourself. I agree that insurance rates, esp in the NorthEast, are way beyond high. However, when you mess with the system, you are transferring some of that risk back to yourself.

After my wife's recent accident, I haved learned that it only takes one accident w/ injuries to ruin your life (financially as well as physically), unless you are insured.
