I am currently looking for a 5speed nissan maxima to replace my automatic. I'm looking for a 97-99 mostly because of the fact that they're safer and i like the way the front looks (plus red/clear tails won't be a problem). Anyway what I'd like to know is what do you guys think the most number of miles the car should have on it and still remain problem free in terms of how much power the engine puts out, and potential problems it could have. Right now I've found a '98 with about 82k miles on it, my '96 has 73k miles on it. I'd hate to buy a car that has more miles on it then the one i have now does, but do you think I'd have any problems? I'd appreciate any feedback you guys have especially those 4th gen 5speeds 97-99 w/over 80k miles.

 

Mileage alone isn't really a good indicator. I'm sure some Maximas with 150,000 gently driven miles will be in better condition than one with 20,000 severly abused miles. That's why i hate buying used cars.
