AutoX results from today
I am incredibly disappointed in my performance at the local autoX today. My first run I was going wayyy too hard for the first time on the course, and I got a little out of shape on the slalom and ran a 26.2. So the 2nd run I decided to tone it down a little, and just get a feel for the course, and ran a 25.5. The third run I was stupid and went into the slalom too hot and locked them up and missed a cone, DNF. 4th run I honestly don't know how I missed the cone that I did, but I knew right away I DNF'd again. Bummer. Oh well I hope to make a better showing at the end of this month. I ended up 12th of 28 in STS. For comparison, the best time of the day was a 21.2 for an FM car, and 2 Camaros ran 21.8 and 22.2 or there abouts with really incredible drivers. Fastest time in STS was 23.8 from an older VW GTI.
I placed 1st in STS in an autoX on this same lot last summer, with far less mods, worse tires, and a more difficult course. Bummer.
On a positive note, I beat 3 SVT Contours on my drive to the autoX venue.

Too bad you got those DNFs; they hurt That sounds like a really fast course for ~23-25 second runs. I went to watch my first AutoX 2 weeks ago and the course was basically a slalom with a loop and a slalom back. The times were ~40 seconds though, so it was probably longer. My question to you is how do the SFCs feel on the course, and how the hell did you run STS with them I was considering the SFCs, but from reading I saw it would bump us up to SM for just the stage 1.

Some friends took video and pics, luckily they took video prior to my DNFs haha.

Ah no wonder When you put on the SFCs I'd really like to know if the cost/class bump is worth it AutoX wise. I'm willing to move from STS to DSP, but I really don't want to go SM.

Honestly I doubt it will be worth the class jump for autoX, but I care about road racing (on real road courses) alot more than AutoX, so I'll deal with it. Also from what I've read, they help solidify the car greatly, improving ride quality as well as helping handling, which would be nice in Michigan (worst roads in the country) with 450# front springs and 40-series tires.
Also, I only autoX at the local level, I'm not even an SCCA member. If they don't ask, I might not tell hehe. We'll see.

I hear ya about the overall performance increase At this point I plan on doing a lot more AutoX so I'm paying attention to the classes. I believe most techs will look under the car to check for subframes. You can get away with a Ypipe, but the subframes are pretty visible. I have a friend with an Fbody who got bumped up because of his subframes and he never mentioned them.

I just got back from the autocross this afternoon as well. I faired decently. About midpack in my class (DSP). The thing that sucks most is that I was tied up this weekend and couldn't put my springs/shocks/sway bars on! I went up there with just my wheels/tires and an intake to compete with later 80s/early 90s BMW 3-series with alot of suspension work. One of the guys took first place overall for the day. Oh well. The course was basically like figure skating....lots of tight 90 degree stuff. That sucked for me (and my tires). I feel I'm getting better though, and once properly modded plan on owning some people

Try www.scca.org. They have a link to different regions (around most major cities) near you. The best way to learn it to just go and sign up one Sunday. Offer to work (work at a station to set up cones that get knocked down) first so you can just watch some of the pros. Dont be afraid to make mistakes, its common place at first. Just practice as often as possible.
