Roadkill: Grand Am and Sportbike.. all at the smokked same time

so heading to danbury a riced out Pontiac Grand Am decided to play.. yeah.. huge wing.. and rear left 1/4 panel was falling off.. but it was held up by rope tied to the spoiler ... so anyway.. away we go..

Grand Am pulls up.. takes off.. gets pulled instantly.. this goes on for about 4 differnet episode.. till the last time.. it became boring so he just got out and out smoked and was never to be seen again.. in out and out smoking the grand am.. a bike (Yamaha YZF600) gets a little breeze by.. and decides he wants to run..

so the bike comes charging up at about 80 mph.. third gear being held.. third gear being held.. as soon as the bike gets 1 car lenght behind .. booom.. off we go.. by 130 mph .. the bike is about 6 car lenghts back.. maybe more.. all i know..i looked back and he was smoked ...

oh by the way.. i wasn't driving.. and this wasn't my car.. this was my cousin's black 97 5spd SE w/ Stillen Y pipe and SprintMax Red/Clear tails(we all know thats where all the power came from) .. it didn't really help ither that my cousin is an excellent driver.. i mean.. my God.. he is better than me and thats next to impossible..

I posted this because i know he wouldn't ....

Geez, Sprint. When will you ever learn? RUSS is the best driver, not you or your cousin.

When the CL/TLs become MUCH faster than the Maximas (yes, even the VQ35), and the only change is Russ has a CL now, what other possible conclusion can it be?

Nice, quick bike, but a back ache waiting to happy though. Make sure its not been laid down or dropped. Check under fairing for bend body work fasteners and scratches to exhaust and such.

If you really want to erase your eyebrows and can handle the riding position, look at R1 or RC51....phew...now thats fun on a highway!

Actually any recent sport bike will brink a nice smile to your face!

You sure this was a YZF600? It is by no means the fastest 600 out there (the R6, ZX6R, GSXR or CBR will beat it from a standing start any time). Having said that, being a YZF600R owner for over an year, I've run mid 11s at the strip with trap speeds of 109-110 and not even close to redlining on 3rd. IMO the only time any decent 600 will get smoked is after 140-145 ish MPH. Problem with all sportbikes (well at least the 600s) is that unless you get it into the powerband and keep it there (which on the YZF600 starts around 8000rpms) and keep it there by shifting right, it will get bogged down. Perhaps the rider in this case either missed a shift or didn't even start with the right ratio.

SprintMax - I am not flaming you or trying to start something here...but those 600cc are real ****'s when it somes to raw speed.

I agree, I've got a 01 Honda CBR600F4i. It doesnt have much torque, but since I'm such a light rider it isnt too bad for me. But once it gets into the powerband (above 6K, peaking out at 12K, redlines at 14.5K at 65 MPH in 1st gear) the thing moves! Even my friend with a modded LT4 96 Corvette has a difficult time keeping pace on the straightwayas (of course I dont have the ***** to pull it past 150 MPH). The only car thats put up a good fight was a modded Toyota Supra. He runs flat 11's in the 1/4, so yes he gave me a run alright.

The YZF600 is in the league of the Katana 600 and the 80 HP/500 pound/$6000 bikes where the CBR, the GSXR, R6 etc are in the 100HP/380 pound/$8200 class. But even a 250 cc with a good rider can run mid 14s in the 1/4 mile which is enough to keep up with most the cars here.

You probabaly caught him at a really high gear, or he missed a shift and popped it into neutral.

RC51: V-Twins sound Awesome! But I like the TL1000R more than the RC51.

I'm looking at the new ZX-6R, one of the most comfortable bikes I've sat on. It might not be as fast as the GSX-R or the R6, but it's really close, and it's faster than I need.

I rode my friends ZX-9R and it was too fast. I rolled on the throttle in third gear and got the front tire off the ground without even trying. That was scary!

No problem. I have a 98 Honda VFR with TwoBro Header back Exhaust and "home grown" snorkel redesign. Titanium screws where I can replace them, shaved fender. Its still bigger than some sport bikes (read: porky) but it gets when necessary. 0-60 in about 2.6-3.2 seconds. Top speed, well I have only had the nards to go about 140. Gets a bit spooky hitting bumps at that speed (Thanks to great highway condition) and watching the tach flick.

Bikes are like opinions everyones go....no wait everyone should HAVE one. Get this I still get about 40 mpg and can get to work about 10 minutes faster per day! Gotta love that!

Congrats on the roadkill. Sprint I am guessing it was a 250, but a 250 does look very different than a YZF600. If you didn't give that comment about it possibly being a 250 I would call BS. At least you are not trying to say that. Having owned both a YZF600 and a R6 I find it hard to believe if it was a 600 that this fool is even allowed on a bike. BTW, what are you picking up the 600 for? I am thinking about fixing up a 998 that was laid down for 7K. I think its a reasonable price for so much bike, but will take a little work. Now thats a superbike!

Just make sure the frame is ok. Check the title, if it's salvage then you can't register it as a street bike. It's only good for the track then.

If it's just plastic, then look into aftermarket plastics. They are much stronger then factory stuff, but then aren't painted.

Frames all G! Thank god, but the crank case needs to be replaced, windshield, front ferrings both sides, stays for the windshield, right and left lower ferrings, plus I have to drain too. I am thinking of staying with stock ferrings because it is a Ducati and the bike is about as new as they get too.

Not necessarily true. I have a guy here at work that wont rev his over 5K. Old school thinker I guess. Says he wants to be carefull with the motor. LOL, once I reach op temp that baby goes to redline for a 3 digit dash!

And just because he owns one does not mean he is comfortable driving it!

Oh, kinda read past the 998 part, I was thinking of the CBR 929.

My friend has a new 900 SS, the V-twins are fun. But it's not comfortable at all!! Gotta do a ball hug before I get on, the tanks on Ducati's come straight up, not leaving much room for the boys.
Then again anytime anyone asks what kind of bike he has, everyone wants to see his Ducati. It's a babe magnet. Even if a person knows nothing about motorcycles they somehow know Ducati.
