Ant
There would've been a lot more WRX's on the driveways (including my driveway) if the darn WRX transmission would not be falling apart...
They are extremely notorious for completely disintegrating, EVEN under normal "spirited" driving. SOA (Subaru of America) is not warranting their tranny's. They tried an aftermarket dog box, called Chalak, imported straight from Australia and EVEN THOSE FALL APART!
------
My 2 cents: Wait for the STi or Lancer EVO VII.
If you must make a move NOW, get a used A4 quattro & put the APR Stage III kit & watch the WRX tranny's blow up as they try to keep up with you. Their headlights don't look that bad in the rear-view mirror!

I like the WRX, their really fun to drive and with a little bit of money can be very fast. Plus wouldn't it be nice to buy a car with a large aftermarket following?

If you plan on doing SCCA racing the WRX would be an abvious choice.

Pick up a 240sx, rare but cheap. Drop in a SR20DET $2000-3000, add FMIC $800, boost controller $70-500, exhaust $500, fuel pump $120. Turn up the boost to 14psi(max on stock T25 turbo), with slicks you'll be in 12s, on street tires low 13s. great handling, aftermarket support(its growing). Fun to drive!

For all the new people who care, i ended up getting a 01 S4 but decided its not worth the payments. I was paying (no im not going to mention the exact $$$) but I will say it was roughly $9XX for 4 years with a pretty good sized d/p. The high APR rates for loans didnt help either and nor does my high insurance premiums.

Since I am letting the S4 go, I have been looking into the WRX but the 02 Max has still been sitting in the back of my head. Anyone want to help me learn more towards the Max?

What took you so long to come back?!?

I looked at an S4, but too much $$$ for such a small back seat!

If you want to get a 2k2 and think it's too slow, shoot me an e-mail, we have a turbo kit for it...and it can be put in for you in NJ.

Talk to you later,

I liek the fact that the WRX comes with very minor options & the seats are very supportive. I just dont like options since this will be a drag car rather then a daily driver.

There have been people who blow the WRX transmission but this can go 2 ways, 1.weak tranny case & 2. moron drivers who cant drive.

My paradigm, any tranny beaten on will break, but many of these guys dont know how to launch the car or drive it properly. They like to beat the **** out of it. I personally dont think they are that bad but i do agree they could use some work. Many guys on the board havent had tranny problems and this is what i find very interesting, the guys pushing high HP & fast times dont have any complaints about their transmission, why? They know how to drive it properly.

If you are SERIOUS about a turbo kit for the 2K2 Maxima...please let me know. I am a loyal Maxima owner (own 2 actually)...& would like to stay that way. However, I want BOOST! I am tired of cosmetic mods. I need some power to go with it. My next car will be a total sleeper...
Please shoot me some mail and we can chat further in detail. NJ is not too far from Chicago...

Unless you are AutoSexual ?

Synki w/ you lurking around I-Club, I think you have your mind set on WRX.

Screw 2K2. Honestly your value will go into the basement w/ the 2003 Maxima coming out, since its a new design.
Fun Factor(1-10): 7.

You can wait for the EVO 7 like the rest of the lemmings on the board, but I know for a fact that NO MITSUBISHI PRODUCT IS RELIABLE.
Fun Factor(1-10): 4.

WRX STi ? More than likely what you're looking for. JDM headlamps, HIDs, Fog Lamp covers, and you're set w/ good looks, excellent reliable AWD performance, and depending on your budget, EZ low 13s, mildly hard to get 12s, and long shot 11s.
Fun Factor(1-10): 10.

Hybrid 240SX-Silvia. Very nice, cheaply done, maintenance might be a problem, but well supported aftermarket.
Fun Factor(1-10): 8.

You know exactly how i feel Hogan.

WRX is great. I dont want a 2K3 Max but am looking at 2K2 but last thing i need is 3 maximas in my driveway. I def dont watn tot wait for the STi. DSMs liek you said are not reliable. I have owned one and modded the hell out of it. The Lancer is teh same motor (4G63) and just die after 80K miles.

Def dont want the hybird, i dont want headaches & having to fix problems, not do i have the help/tools for a project like that.

Has i-club seen the pic of you peeing on the Scooby?

Synki, Hahaha. Didn't think you were a man to get a 2K3.
3 Maximas, nice, its a Nissan Dealership @ Synki's.
STi would be nice
DSMs, you know the deal.
Hybrid would be nice, it can be reliable too, its not like its a Honda.
Yeah, that was Accurit's(Accurit Performance on I-Club)Car at my house the 2nd week he got it, and I was bored started washing my car, got his car wet, and he told me to wash it, but he caught me at a good angle w/ his camera. I-Club has had a few good laughs...

The main reason I love the Max because it's a modern high performance sports sedan that does not break the bank in terms of car payments and un-reliabaility. S4s are mad expensive, and their drivetrain ain't no cheaper. Look at most S4 owners. They have the money to buy it, but most often not the enthusiasm to really enjoy it. WRXes are cheaper, but AWD and an enthusiast just mean expensive drivetrain bills. I'm seeing WRXes pop up with huge 4 inch downpipes. Their turbos must be crazy free with HP now. I'm sure, just like with our Maxima, the tranny is not beefed up one bit. You KNOW that car's AWD tranny ain't gonna last. VWs still haven't gotten as reliable as the Maxima. That's really the only thing knocking the VWs.

Maximas are fast, reliabe, fun, and practical. Because of that, you have more time and money to . . .

Enjoy the ride

Man, I should make a Nissan commercial

This entire thread is quite ironic to me hehe.. I was just told someone might be willing to even trade their S4 with 11,000 miles on it for my 2k2 max. VERY VERY tempting ugh... I wont sleep for a week. 2 turbos and AWD mmmm.

You know what? Since you trying to get away from the Maxima, here;

G35 Coupe 6 speed. This is the 1st car that's come along and really tempted me to trade in.

When the coupe becomes available this fall, 6 speed will be available. It's not too different from the 350Z. Same engine, the VQ35 is practically everywhere now in the Nissan/Infiniti lineup, same RWD platform, more than likely same performance enhancements and other options, too.

Ive thought about the G35 coupe as well but right now, I am in the market for a 4dr car since its a bit more practical for me.

Even if I ended up with the WRX, one of the first things i will be considering is swapping over to the 6spd STi tranny in it.

Can you believe i got a guy from FL driving up to pick up the S4?

While the power may be somewhat similar between the S4 and 2K2 6spd Max....you are going to weep uncontrollably when you captain the boat known as Max. Ofcourse, a couple grand in springs, shocks, sway bars, tires, etc will solve that. Now obviously a FWD wont stick like an AWD car, but the Max is night and day with suspension mods. I'm still in the process of dialing in my car 'just right'. As others have said, the biggest fault of the 2K2 Max is the open diferential (on non-HLSD). Just wait until Quaife comes out with a limited slip.......its on then.

tifosiv122, I hope you are being for real about a turbo kit. Check your e-mail!

hold up, what's that. i think we need to talk.

synki- i know we talked and sometimes i didnt' like my car but it's back and subtle changes and time apart have changed my mind. i had the grill painted body color and it's all waxed up and it's looks hot. i changed out all the brake fluid for DOT4 today and painted the calipers and i'm lowering it this week then i start prototyping the frankencar catback(eta 3 months and price of 500ish, all SS, all TIG welds, full polish, mandrel bends blah blah) the car is nice, rattle here and there, but the brakes i love, SO NICE. i did two brake checks with teh new fluid today in front of the same guys house and he was outside andstarted screaming at me. i loved it. i'm also going crazy with some paintnig of various parts, emax is clearing my lights for me(thanks again bro) and i hope to have lots of stuff out for them. you and me are connected synki, come back. i'm telling you this as a friend and from a 2k2 owner. we both had white auto 4th gens with 100shot and know the pains of no traction however too. my advice is to get one and get some good tires, BUT don't be a moron lke me and rush and not get the HLSD. i know you're looking semi stock, no leather, maybe no bose right??? get the HLSD though and over the winter when i start looking into DPI or wet kit i'll give you teh pointers this time. unless my plans for a S/C get off the drawing board. i looked at a WRX too and they are ok looking and fragile trannies and i know the way i drive and you to it won't hold up. i think you will be happy with a 2k2 6-spd, just get some 18's and some dynamat.

Yeah I certainly wish I would have gotten the HLSD option. I was just so happy to get such a nice roomy car that I snapped up the cheapie they had on the lot. Then again, all the others with HLSD had Bose, Nav, leather, etc and were around $30K. I got mine for $6000.00 less.

Is it possible to buy the HLSD afterwards at the dealer and have it put on?
