I drove with my parents from Killeen/ Fort hood, Texas
it was about 900 and something miles. And my max is an 88, we had a caravan of my moms Volvo and my dads s-10; I was in the middle. We had walkie talkies with two mile range. Man that was fun. We went the way going through shreveport, shooting straight across throough mississippi, youll cross the mississippi river On that one big *** bridge. Went through Montgomery, Al and from there it should take you two hours to get to Atlanta. But in your case you might want to go through or around Birmingham. Hmm maybe I should look that up in the atlas. hold on. Ok, Basically we were on I-20, I think, through shreveport going through Vicksburg, louisiana. Heading into mississippi going through Jackson, Mississippi to Meridian. Then it takes you to Tuscaloosa, Al. Going to Birmingham, ok it says here, that 459 should take you around Birmingham, so no traffic, its your call though. I-20 takes you straight through birmingham. If you take 459 going around birmingham it should take you back to I-20. Then from birmingham it should take about 3 hours. I went there for thanksgiving thats why I know. But it took us 2 and a half hours to get back to atlanta. So we were flying. Yeah but if you take I-20 its a clean shot all the way to Atlanta. Good luck and have fun. 
Get you an atlas if youre not familiar with my route. We always took that route when going to visit relatives. I hope I helped! -Q
