Click on the left side on what years you want to look up and it will show you how much % or price the car will retain its value in the 4-5 years time.

I see you edited your post Russ

In any case the Maximas low resale value is good news for those of us who buy used and one of the reasons I chose the Maxima.

On the other hand if you buy new and trade in often Maxima =

It is all meaningless if you keep a car and drive it 10 years. If you buy new and change every 3 or 4 years, though, the Hondas, Acuras, Lexus and Toyota are probably a better way to go then Nissan.

OTOH, resale can be a double edged sword. I almost never buy new and I will drive until a car becomes unreliable. In that case, NISSAN is the best deal going. Big depreciation means you can buy em low mileage at a steep discount with 150,000+ miles still to go in them.

I bought my 2K Max with 22500 miles for $17K last Aug. There is no car in its class for that price. With 30% off original cost, someone else has paid the steep depreciation and now I will reap the benefit of the remaining miles at a discount for a fine performance vehicle.

So, what's your point?

I looked up my 2002 SE and compared it to a 2002 CL-S.

Not only did it show an initial $3000 price difference between the two, it does not list leather interior, moonroof, or cd-changer for the Maxima. It does include these items on the CL-S however. Add these items to the Max, and the residual value comes out to about the same. Thanks for proving that the Maxima is a better buy the the Acura's.

I don't believe it cares what options the cars have, they are going by the actual model. The CL-S only comes with leather, thats the standard options. Leather is not a standard option on the Maxima.

CL-S worth 27-28k, Maxima worth 26-28k without nav. about 30k with nav, cl-s about 30k with nav, not really any price difference that I see. TL-S now is about 30k without and 32k with nav.

But after 1 year at least my CL-S is still worth 3/4 of its value, unlike my Maxima loosing 10+k in just a year.

Your max lost $10K in trade in value? If you sold it privately it would have been better right? The 2K2's defintatly hurt the older max's value, I can't wait until the 2004 makes my car worthless

If I sold it out right, I could only get about 19k at the most since 2k2 23k~. I got 17k for mine, other places were offering 15-16k.

BMW's are amazing, aren't they? They simply blow away the manuevers most on this forum try to pull. Let's let the 1st owner take the hit and buy the car when it's 2 years-old.

Those guys bash BMWs and then scratch their heads when 1998 528i's have lost less value than a 2001 Maxima. Penny-wise and very # foolish is the Maxima way, unless you keep it.

If you use the 'compare to other car' feature, it shows price and options, listing them side by side. The difference in price and options makes up for the difference in resale value.

I think your car, the 2K2 6 speed, will kindof go down as a classic. You can't make a sports sedan too big, then it won't really be the same. Look the BMW 7 series or the Mersedes S class. Not quite the 5 series or E class. The next maxima will really big. Nissan is passing the torch to the Altima. Not as the flagship, but as premier sports sedan.
