Insurance is going SKY HIGH
Insurance is going SKY HIGH
Ok here is the deal, I got a couple of tickets sometime ago, and like and a** I didn't pay them so my license got suspended. Mind you I didn't pay 2 tickets so that is 2 suspensions. Well, I had another suspension back in 99 that I served already. You guys are smart, Im not so guess what that means....*drum roll* 3 suspensions on my license and I am now truly f*****. As you guys probably know not many insurance companies want me, so I am in the process of finding another one. Now, I have found one that will take my as a "high risk" which means my insurance is about to be crazy. What am I going to do??????
Now I have paid the tickets so my license is cool, but my insurance will not be. I figure with my record, Im gonna be paying probably close to $10,000
in insurance. Now I wanna die right now, but we all know that is not going to happen. What can I possibly do, I plan on taking a defensive driving course to help some but I seriously doubt that will work. I know there is somebody on here that works for insurance company and I need help, guidance, whatever u wanna call it..........cuz I feel like complete s*** and its all my fault. Live and learn...........

i really dont know how it all works but have you explained the situation to the insurance companies? ive had 2 speeding tickets but i paid them. just because you didnt pay them doesnt mean that you are any higher of a risk to get another or get into an accident than i am. do all they know is that you have had your license suspended 3 times or do they know that they are merely because you didnt pay a typical speeding ticket?
im a perfect world, or in a reasonable world, i feel like the insurance companies should understand that the suspensions werent because of you being a careless driver and give you a break on the situation.

Once you're in the risk pool, I don't think you should bother shopping around. That rate if fixed by the state. You better be careful you could have your driving privelages permanently revoked. That stuff is on your record for a full TEN 10 years I believe. The 39 months usually applies to violations, not suspensions..
you're in the assigned risk pool. you either don't drive for a few years or pay the inflated rate.
insurance company sees the two speeding tickets...then they see you're irresponsible (not saying you are..but what they see) and didn't pay it..they slap on the big red mark on it. also the suspensions is not helping your case. you're in the worst case u can be w/ insurance companies.
last resort...know anyone from another state? (not NJ) you can get a driver's license there and have your car registered there.
sorry man..but you're screwed.

Move.
I had a revoked license for drag racing in Illinois. Once
my license was "released" by the state of Illinois, I was free to
get a new license. By this time, I had moved to NY. I got a new
license there. None of the past revokation or tickets or anythiing
show on the NY license. To my insurance, my record is clean.
Maybe it's just luck. Or maybe the system is broken in this way.
Anyone else have comments on this?

Ah....it's that the SR-22??
I had to pay one of these from 1998-February 2002. Before I bought my first car (in July 2001), I had received two speeding tickets driving my friend's Accord and Acura CL.
Well, I got 6 points each (96 on 65 and 81 on 65) since I was in probation. I got suspended license back in July 1998.
Then, I found out that if I want to reinstate my license, I had to pay US$ 3000/year for SR-22 insurance until February 2002. Not a chance! I did not pay the SR-22, and I did not reinstate my license. I did not have a car at that time, so I saw no need to get my license back.
From that moment on, I drove very prudent if I was forced to drive. I drove 70 on 65, 35 on 35, stop to dead stop every intersection and paid attention to my surroundings. Luckily, from 1998 to July 2001, no cops bothered me.
When I bought my Max in July 2001, I did pay the SR-22 to get my license. It was only US$ 200 per 6 month period, from July - December 2002. Then for January-February 2002, I only paid US$ 80.
Now I am point free, and got the best rate since I am not considered a "high risk" driver anymore (tickets is older than 3 years and no new tickets, Thank God!).
I don't know about your situation, but it's my 2 cents...
Perhaps you could talk to a lawyer and get things going? In this country, insurance is required.....!!!
Wait....except in Wisconsin, we do not have to have insurance for our cars.....

different states don't share driving records, so if you move r can get a liscense in another state you'll be fine. just swith for a year and switch back - I'd figure the DMV wouldn't keep your driving history on file for 10 years especially if you liscense lapses.
this could just be more trouble in the future though if you have to explain to your insurance co why you have a liscense from state X, a car registered in state Y and you live in state Y. My insurance company wanted me to get a CA liscense and registration when I move here even though I had a year left on it from AZ.
If the insurance is really that bad, try to buy a junker and call that your primary vehicle and the max your occasional car. Not sure about your coverage, but lower it if you can. If you're a student, check about good student discounts or join some association they will give discounts for.

im pretty sure that having 2 dif drivers' licenses is illegal. so be wary of that. also, the guy who said some states share their records while some dont is correct. from my own personal experience, michigan shares with florida.
i got two tickets up here at school a few years ago and my insurance premiums went up in florida (i have a fl license). also, i know how youre feeling at the moment, apparently, i got a parking ticket in florida when i was there last summer visiting my parents and i was unaware of it. i got pulled over in michigan about 3 months ago and nearly had the bracelets put on. heh, okay, exaggeration. the cop did say he couldve arrested me though. apparently, fl dmv suspended my license because i hadnt paid for the parking ticket (how could i when i didnt even know about it; i was only IN the fcking state for 3 weeks last year!). well, i finally paid the parking ticket but the county told me i had to pay $260 because it was late. the period i had to appeal in court had also expired so i couldnt not even contest the damn thing. lame.
well, because of this i was being slapped with a misdemeanor; driving without valid operators license and then the $170 speeding ticket for going 55 in a 35. i had just finished my last midterm and i was speeding home to go back to bed. it was a real shltty day. thank god my attorney got me off the misdemeanor and no points were issued. however, i DID have to pay the full fine. no big deal, id prefer being out a couple bills than having a misdemeanor on my rec. i wonder what THAT would do to my insurance!!!
