The panel filter adds about .5 horsepower. They are known to cause, idling problems, and sometimes the cruise control gets messed up. If anything get a cone filter with an adaptor, you'll get better horespower and it will sound cool too.
Drop in K&N
Have it in my 2000 I30 and 95 Max...no idle problems and cruise works fine. Never heard of it hurting cruise control.
Main caution is not to over oil it when it comes time to clean it ( at 30-50K miles)
Each filter seemed to improve performance, but likely in my head...or is it?

I have the drop-in K&N in my 2K1 SE and the car idles great and the cruise control works great also. The filter provides a few extra horses and is worth it if you wan't to keep your car factory quiet and do without the cone filters.
I've had a K&N drop-in on my 95SE for about 6 months - no problems with idling or cruise-control - and it's been through 90deg humidity as well as minus15deg snow, ice, etc., in both city and long-range highway driving.
I actually noticed about a 2 to 3 MPG inprovement in fuel economy and slightly better mid-range acceleration as well.

The ONLY thing a K&N air filter will do is permit slightly more air to enter the throttle body, and the ECU should quickly adjust to that condition. So while it's possible for a K&N air filter to affect idle, cruise control, etc., I simply cannot conceive of the mechanics that would cause it to do that.
Hey, the 1980's called...
They want their K&N "Drop in horsepower" Filter back.
Don't buy it. Save your money. Don't buy worthless interior/exterior accessories, don't buy Honda Tuning magazines.
Take your "saved" money and buy a CAI and Y Pipe.

Just get a cheaper cone filter, get the 20 off ebay. They look good, and sound great. If you want performance get a PR CAI.

I hear CAI's aren't good for driving in the rain. Something about water getting into the pipes or something?

BTW I got an APC Intimidator intake from Advanced AutoParts. All you need is an adapter plate (which one could easily fabricate), and you're set.

It's called hydrolock. It occurs when water enters into your engine (typically through the intake system). Your engine must be replaced, there is no way to fix it. However the chances this will happen are very small, as you would have to be driving in knee-deep water for this to happen. If I recall correctly, it has only happened to 1 Maxima on the .Org ever. So it shoudn't be a problem.

Water does not compress the hardly at all, and when it gets into the combustion chamber and the piston is trying to compress it, it bends the connecting rod, crankshaft, or whatever else will give in. Small amounts of water from the intake will not cause this to happen.
where are the adapters?

BTW, how can you say take your saved money and buy a CAI and Y-Pipe? Are you aware how much those pieces cost?
