I'm thinking about getting 18x8 with 38 offset in front and
18x9.5 in rear with 44offset. Will these fit my 96 max?
Thanks in advance!

Don't get 9.5s for the rear. That is completely pointless on a FWD car, and it would probably make the handling a lot worse, with wider tires in the rear than the front.

Personally, I'd like a little more offset in the front, like 42-45. It just keeps the tire tucked in better and looks more fitted. Your proposal would probably fit, but I'd advise against it for several reasons:

1. You can no longer rotate front to rear
2. You are increasing the weight unnecessarily
3. Your resale value on the wheel set will be less

Some may argue that changing the rear track (width between tire centerlines) will adversely affect handling. You're not talking about much here so I don't think it's a real issue.

There's no functional advantage to this, purely cosmetic.

BTW, if you use a wheel with a higher offset (mine are 45mm w/18x8.5") the difference between the front and rear wheel clearance on the Max isn't as noticeable.
