Vibration Felt In Steering At 40mph And Above

i had my auto tranny checked after i was told it might be a worn tranny bearing that was causing vibration to be felt in my steering wheel at 40mph and above. the tranny guy told me he suspected one or both of the axles maybe the source of the problem .if you've had any experience with this problem please let me know what you found.

NOTE: THE VIBRATION IS FELT COASTNG W/ THE TRANNY IN NEUTRAL AND DOEST NOT CEASE WITH BRAKES APPLIED

How did he come to that conclusion? Sounds like a wheel balance issue? Transmission felt in steering wheel kinda hard to believe

I think you need a alighnment.. I doubt its the tranny since you can feel it in neutral.

i just assumed that you had a 4th gen even before i read this thread.

40 mph is a little lower than normal....but.... a lot of 4th gen owners get the shakes in the steering wheel at about 65-70 MPH and then it goes away at about 80. i know i had it in my 96. i think its just a universal problem with the 4th gen. however, 40 MPH seems to be a little early to start feeling it. maybe its the same thing, maybe its not. i just thought i'd throw that out there.

bearings

check the wheel bearings. i have the same problem and now my car is almost undrivable (the faster you go the less shake you get btw) so i am taking it in for a costly 4@90$, labour additional repair.

it almost feels like a balance issue, but with wheel balance the faster you go the more it will shake.. bearings produce the opposite effect.

Check your alignment, and check if your lug nuts are loose. I've experienced both.
