I dunno .. but my body shop just kept the original paint on (I bought my kit used) ... but he covered it with some sort of crap like poly filla which also filled in all the scratches, etc ... then he just painted over that ... do you really need to take the paint off?

Yeah I have to take the paint off, the guy at the body shop said that since I went to a cheap place to get it painted they used really bad paint and that if he painted over it, it would just flake off just like the paint already flaking off now.

i went to maaco when i wanted to have my grill painted a few months ago. i walked in and told the lady my plans. she said "what year is that?" i said "2002". she said "not here honey. sorry. try the dealership"

im kind of glad they refused to something on a new car cause i know it would have been poor quality.

would brake fluid work? I heard that stuff eats away paint.

NOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo...
do not use brake fluid.
sure it'll strip the paint off..but to prep the surface to get the part clean will be amazingly difficult.

either wet sand the piece or if the paint is flaking..look for a paint stripper..make sure it's safe for the plastic.
