No, it's not a fartcan. The sound obviously doesn't come from the exhaust so it's not that bad. But yes it is loud down low when normally driving, and deafeningly loud at WOT. I honestly can't vouch for power gains and I wouldn't put something on my car that catches attention unnessecarily (well, okay the license plate ). Plus everytime I race him I beat him with just my cone.

well i just finished the hybrid intake...the sound while cruising isnt loud at all..maybe i overestimated.. you hear a very light growl starting at 2.5k RPM then it gets louder as it gets higher..it doesnt really get LOUD until about 3.5-4K. if you can take just slightly louder than stock sound..you'll be ok. i took pics and i'll post them in a few minutes in case anyone wanted to see.

Memo to all who use pvc piping to make their hybrid intakes; don't use it! When heated up by engine heat it creates gas fumes that can harm your engine. If you're going the cheap intake route get aluminized steel tubing from an exhaust shop and paint it with 3 coats of acrylic paint, inside and out. The reason for painting it is that the paint creates a heat shield that helps the air stay cool, which may help performance.
