Auto shift boot: Black or Grey?...

Well I did the Nismo automatic shift-boot mod, but I made a huge mistake in buying it in red. I though it would match the whole red scheme of the car, but it doesn't. It's too damn bright. So my question to you: Should I make it grey or black? My interior is the grey cloth/ dark grey (almost black) dash, doors, etc.

Thanks,
-Cyrus

Hehehehe .... looks like a condom

Ok, seriously ... you should match it (as best as you can) with your e-brake boot.

That's a good point...
Does anyone know where I can get a ruby colored boot? It needs to be fairly big and have some type of elastic or tie at the top (as most do). Momo would be nice too.

How exactley did you put this boot on an auto? Is there any way to see the drives if you do this?

First let me give credit where it is due: this is Nismo's idea/mod. You rip out the bottom shift panel, then shift ****, then overdrive wires, then install the boot and put everything back together.

No, I tried for several hours to do this but no luck.

What I would do (worked for other leather items) is just use shoe polish that is brown like chocolate brown. That gives a darker tint to it. Worked for me, I would try a small piece first, see how you like it. I had a red leather steering wheel I did this too, turned it a nice auburn

Looks good actually mine came with a tie string at the top. what I did was turn the boot inside out, slip it over the shifter tie the string and flip it back inside out again. that way the string will be "inverted" so you dont see the string. looks better.

No I don't think so, but it's very easy. Pry the trim around the shifter out. Make sure to catch the clips that hold the lower potion in (you will know what I'm talking about if you search around). Then remove it and disconnect the cigarette lighter connection. Unscrew the 3 screws on the actual shift ****. This is the hard part. You have to cut the overdrive wires (2, 1 white, one black) so that you can still reconnect them. Cut them as close as you can to the ****! Trust me I cut them too short and had to rewire (a b*tch!). Then pull the whole **** off, slip on the boot, and put everything back together. The whole think should not take more than 2 hours if you are very carful.

This is actually my mod that I did to my old 3rd gen about 3 years ago. I still have my black leather MOMO shift boot stored away. I was the only auto to have a shift boot. The difference in the 3rd gens is that you have to dremel away at the bottom of the cover to make it fit right. Vyrus is right, the overdrive wires are very short. I actually ripped mine while pulling up on the shifter.

PS Vyrus, my recomedation is to go with the black leather. I accentuates the interior so nicely.

Would the OEM 5spd 4th Gen boot work? I think that would match very well. Does anybody know how much they run?
Thanks,
