G35 is the winner!
I got the July R&T today. They did an 11 super sedan comparo. It went as follows:
11 Lincoln LS
10 Jaguar X-type 3.0 (arent they the same car?)
9 Volvo S60 T5 (the little turbo)
8 Cadillac CTS (I cant believe it wasnt last)
7 Mercedes-Benz C320 Sport
6 Acura 3.2 TL Type-S (mid-pack finish; take heart everyone! we'll see if it still stands that way when the new TL comes)
5 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro
4 SAAB 9-5 Aero (another small turbo)
3 Lexus IS300
2 BMW 330i (gasp!!! Germany is knocked from the top!)
1 Infiniti G35
1/4mi.....14.7 @ 95.2
700ft slalom...65.0 mph
roadholding....0.86g
compared to the bimmer:
1/4mi.....14.7 @ 96.3
700ft slalom...65.4 mph
roadholding....0.86g
think Nissan is targeting anyone in particular?

They tested comparable cars with much less hp and it they did almost as well.. plus they tested some of those cars to their full potential, something that most magazines don't do. This just indicates that the G35 will probably run around 14.7.. It kind of makes sense a little bit though... The Maxima is lighter with similar #s and runs 3 tenths faster in the 1/4

-------------------------------------------
how did the IS300 with such a sh*tty interior end up in third place-------------------------------------------
because like it or not, Lexus makes a hell of car
-------------------------------------------
wasn't the bimmer a stick and the g35 an auto????
-------------------------------------------
the 330 has a 35 hp handicap, probably about how much the infiniti's torque converter sucks up
-------------------------------------------
dont get me wrong..i like the G35..its the back styling i just dont like for some reason-------------------------------------------
they show pictures of the new coupe (which gets 275 hp by the way) from the front, side and back. And let me tell you something, the g35 coupe gives up nothing to the Z. Plus you can take your wife and friends out in it. I just know I couldnt live with a car with no back doors. Lets hope they give the 4door 6speed the extra 15 hp.

Since when does the overpriced 330 run a 14.7. I personally spanked one of those a month ago. WTF ! If he's running 14.7, he should be able to beat me. Then again for 42K, he should hope to win..... 12K in mods to my Max =====

Any idea how it compares (acceleration that is) to the new Altima? I drove one recently, and even with 20 extra horses, it did not feel like it pulled as hard as my Maxima. That was just by feel, I know they are supposed to be faster.

And BMW may be overpriced, but if I was overpaid, M5...
This comparison in R&T >>
was not so much about which car was the fastest, but rather which car is the most bang for the buck. The G35 wins hands down, and would only raise it's standing when the manual tranny version comes out. I like the G35, but unless they do something about those queer taillights and put the parking brake handle where it belongs, I'll still be looking at the A4.
Yeah, I think the G35 coupe is going to be such a hot seller. The ugly taillights of the sedan are completey taken care of in the coupe. Everything about the coupe is just beautiful. Just as pretty in real life (I saw it at the NYC car show) as in the pictures. Dealers are going to be able to up the price b/c demand will be so high.
I've shown several friends who had their mind set on CL-Ss, BMW etc the G35. They were like "What is this?" They're waiting 'till fall now

I just hope they can keep up with demand seeing as infiniti is a pretty pathetic seller before the G35.

I'm officially on the list for one of these bad-boys! I can't wait! Test drove the sedan a couple weekends ago and the coupe is going to be even better. I'll get it in either this silver or black, and the dealer (sales manager) promised it at MSRP w/ no markup.

That's always something I've wondered >>

But this is a "gotta have" car for me. I'm willing to pay MSRP for it, but not over. You're not gonna be on a list for a hot car like this and expect to pay under sticker. (My brother just got his M3 in April and paid sticker, all $56K of it.) And while my average length of time for keeping cars works out to about 27 months currently, I foresee keeping this one for several years (like, 7-10). This is the first car I've seen in about a decade that I can say that about.
Anyway, BMW dealers aren't too well known for negotiating anyway, so I'd be interested in seeing how much you actually ended up paying. My boss has a '02 325i and she haggled for almost two hours to get a measly $900 off a $36K sticker, for what is an overpriced car already (IMO).

I never have before either. Hell, I paid nearly $4K below sticker for my current Maxima ($1500 under invoice). I got my first new car ('92 Sentra) $2K below sticker and it was only a $12.5K sticker to begin with.

I don't know where your boss lives, it all depends on location, but I payed $2700 below retail, or less than 3% over invoice. However, I spent a month haggling, not two hours. 330Ci is well worth for me. I got what I really wanted and more than expected.
