UH OH. Want a reason NOT to bolt in your clear corners?

Yesterday I was out watering the lawn and I looked over at my car and saw something strange. Well as I get closer my heart sank. The first thing I noticed was that one peice of the clear corner was gone on the passenger side. The harness was just ripped off leaving exposed wire. Down the entire right side of the car is a nice long key scratch... from the front bumper to the back one. I walk around and the driver side is keyed also!!!!! I was sooooo ****ed. I was at a festival all weekend where my car was parked and this place was PACKED so I'm guessing that it happened sometime on sunday, and when I drove my car home at night I was just too tired / it was just too dark to see it. I think what happened was the person tried to take the clear corners, saw the signal was bolted in and they couldn't get it and got ****ed and keyed the car.

Lesson of the day : leave your clear corners unbolted... it's a lot better to be paying $40 than god knows how much. I'm off to the b/s in a little bit. =(

so many stories of parts getting stolen off our cars...luckily i don't live in a highly populated maxima spot...well i do but most people here that drive them are old and already have most parts i have (diamond cut corners, fogs, etc.)

Damn that sucks.

And like I've been saying ... $40 for clears is a lot smaller price to pay than your car being keyed.

Everyone ... go unbolt your clears!

A$$holes

Mine are not bolted in and this is the reason I hesitate to bolt them in. I would rather lose my $40 clears than have someone wreck my bumper trying to get them out or get pi$$ed and vandalize my car.

My alarm is very sensitive, I think it might go off if someone tries to unscrew my clears. I was also thinking about hooking an extra trigger wire my alarm has up to my clears so when they are removed the alarm goes off, has anyone tried this?

Don't you have comprehensive insurance? Personally it might be a blessing for me to get my car keyed, that way at least I'll get new paint. Also i'm not exactly too attached to my car so I dont care too much what happens.

Another funny thing is from 1996 til 1999, no one ever stole my clear bumper lamps...just two accidents...wait make that til 1998...1999 I had 300ZX foglamp/ signal lamps installed on my bumper.
I had a 96 GXE bumper, so I got fog lamps + signal lamps, no one had or has, yet. Procedure had to hack a 300ZX bumper, and mold into my factory bumper which was torn on the passenger side, after some moron in a Dodge Caravan decided to make a right turn from the left lane.

I had one wedge bulb stolen last week here in the ghetto and I guess clee was right. I was going to bolt them in and he told me not to. Whatever gets stolen off my car I'll replace. Hell with prevention!

I seriously have no respect for people who do that type of crap. I try not to park my car at big populated areas because i am afraid of vandalism of this type. I live near this large mall and one day a couple weeks ago me and a couple buddies were there and when we were leavin we seen these two scumbags tryin to pull the clear corners outta this civic hatchback.... i almost got outta the car, grabbed my friends bat, and just beat the living poo outta them. i wanted to so bad, but instead we just drove around till we found the nearest rent-a-cop and filled him in on what was goin on...dont kno what happened after that. But seriously, i have absolutely no respect for people who steal clears, or key cars or anything like that. u just dont mess with a mans car. good thing tho where i live there are hardly any modded maximas, everything is civics, integras, and accords.

Wow! Sorry to hear that, man. I feel your pain. I hate "haters"! They try to take what they don't have, and if they don't get it, they take it out on ruining somebody's else's pride and joy! I bolted my clears ever since I got the "diamond-cut" ones. I later found it to be a pain in the a$$ when changing a burned out bulb. I have to climb underneath the car, unbolt the splash guards and pull out the socket. But, now that I have heard your story, I may think twice about putting them back the way they were.

i'm gonna bring it by the shop tommorow.. one of my bosses at work used to be an adjuster in the field so he knows the owner and is gonna call tommorow... my biggest concern is that the **** won't match up but depending on what the ins. co. gives me for it i'll just pay the difference and get the whole car resprayed.

thanks though

trust me, it's much better to pay another $40 for clears than to deal with this garbage. i hate people. so much for the 6/9 meet

i think the glue method works well...put a bit of silicone glue on the tip of that nub and that way they wont fall off at high speeds but if someone really wants to steal em that badly, they will pop off with some effort. got that idea on this board somewhere.

anyway, really sorry to hear about that man

I used to have headlight covers on my Mustang, bolted on. At a club in NYC one night, they tried to steal the, couldnt get them off, so they tore off both of my headlights ! .. Thats why im not securing my HID's...they can have them, and let insurance buy me a new pair...

No one has the nads to try and steal my car in front of my house.
As for the freak who keyed my car in a lot of at least 20 cars, and doesn't break in or steal anything, I hope you die.
Car will be done tommorow, and then I get to diagnose Y my ECU is throwing Codes up the ****.

That's why I would never 'flex' near my neighboorhood. If you beat a couple losers in a race or someting, they follow you and F up your car a couple days later. Not worth it.

My cousin who used to live at my house parked his totally stock 96 Integra parked 3 doors down and had his stock orange corner lenses stolen. At least they didn't jack up the wiring, but he was majorly p*ssed considering he only had the car for 3 days when it happened.

I just ran across this thread, I am really sorry about your car, how is it today? I was at Humperdinks in Dallas a couple of weekends ago and someone backed into my Max. No body damage but it cracked the paint on the right side of the bumper, and of course no note. It was dark too so I didn't notice it until the next day.
Some people have no respect for others dedication to their automobile, at times like these I just try to think that what comes around goes around.

Man that sux Chris. You haven't had much luck lately. Call me superstitious but I'd take it as a sign to be more careful when you're driving around with the Max.

Bunch of tourists and drunk a-holes at the Festival. Word for people driving into the city, best to keep the car away from that area even if you have to walk a bit.

btw- my clear corners are bolted on, otherwise it'll be hanging off my front bumper (ghetto Sarona).

i still have mine bolted on though

i just don't think that the thief not being able to get out your clear corners will normally justify them keying your car.. or at least i hope so.
