2k2 problems, help me!
2k2 problems, help me!
Okay i have now racked on 2500+ kms on my 2k2 Maxima SE 6speed with HLSD>. Now i need constructive help on some of the problems i am having.
1. Getting a lot of vibrations from the brake.. I think my rotors are already warped.. Is this normal on a new car?? I didn't break hard during break in period so what gives?
2. The shifter feels like ****. DIfficulties engaging some of the gears. I noticed tha forth gear has a nasty frictiony feel when shifting out. 6th gear is sometimes difficult to engage.
3. AFter being new, and now past the break in stage, the clutch feels like ****. Its very difficult to engage the car smoothly between upshifts and downshifts (not like new) and starting in first now has a cheap chattery feel to it.
4. Driving the car in traffic and other throttle on/off situations, my car is very jerky. Off and on the throttle in any gera at any RPM at any speed results in jerky vehicle movements.. No matter how lightly i press the gas or let go, i get the same jerk!!
(PS.. My protege drove way more smoother than this with messed up syncrhos)
5. Today i had to crank the car longer than usual to get it started.. WHY!!
6. I noticed at night times, my check engine light is on dimly... I know some other guys have seen this, but is this normal?? Its not actually on, but very very dimly on, and it makes the guagues look cheap..
7. BOSE SUCKS period.
8. Steering radius.. WHAT THE HELL is wrong with this car. Its like worse than my 1990 ford aerostar. I know some of you guys removed some stoppers on the steering rack but i feel that nissan will void my warranty if i do this..
9. HOw many of you guys have alarms?? I am too concerned in installing my Compustar 2000AS because of the difficulties some of you guys had..
I havent taken the car to the dealer yet but i rather have your guys opinions first so i can go in with some power backing me, maybe even print this thread.

Sorry to hear about the problems. Well I have an automagic, so I can't help with the tranny/clutch problems.
I've never seen the CEL come on.
My brakes are smooth as silk after 7,500mi (but you should know I brake VERY soft everytime!) It seems that 2500 is VERY EXTREME! Get it checked.
Mine starts on the first crank or two, even in very cold weather.
Bose DOES SUCK!
Turning Radius - get used to it, or remove the bump - stops like others have done here. Although there seems to be a new thread stating that this may harm the steering. (?)
Good luck at the stealer... I mean... dealer.

It took me 3000 miles to finally figure out how to drive the maxima's manual transmission smoothly. Don't worry most of that stuff will work itself out, it's just a very wierd tranny. I get slight judder when I brake hard as well, I always attributed it to the electronic brake assist. I dunno i will get my rotors checked next time I'm at the dealer.
I removed the bump stops and I'm happy to say I can successfully make U-turns without fail. I could care less what other people say about long term damage etc.. it's more important for me to get through an intersection without getting t-boned.
I can't comment about the CEL, i've no idea! Maybe you installed an intake wrong or something. no idea why it would be dim.

The shifter is a major PITA as it's action is about as precise as a hockey stick in a pail of marbles. I've got Redline in my tranny and about 25,000 kms on the car now and it's not much better. My shifting has had to adjust in a manner that allows much smoother shifting.
I think the BOSE is fine for a factory system. Reception is as good as anything else and the system gets plenty loud for my type of listening.
Not sure about your CEL, but check this thread:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....&highlight=dim
on page 2 of that thread, org member buzek posts a fix.
I also am getting some brake shudder and will be mentioning it to my dealership the next time I think of calling them. It just started with mine at about 24,000 kms and is not a constant problem, but annoying none the less.
The jerkiness with the throttle is going to take some time to get used to. The Maxima, doesn't bend to your style of driving, you bend to it's style.
The steering radius also drove me insane when I first got the car. My Lincoln LS felt like a go kart compared to the SS Maxima. Over time I've gotten used to it and it's not an issue as I once again have conformed to the way Nissan wants me to drive.
