Killed by an E36 M3...............

I was on my way home when i ran into this clean looking E36 M3 with paper tags on 75S Atl GA.I pulled next to him to get his attention, stuffed in third at 60mph then took off.

Mistake no.1 His car came at me at a rate that was not normal no matter how hard i tried i could not hold him off or prevent him from putting car length's on me.

How many you ask?..........they were still increasing when i let off at 130ish.

Second race happpend when he took the same exit as i.I figured that may be i should try my luck again light to light.Mistake no.2.

I had perfect launches ie 2000rpm quick release followed by the sound of tires spinning all thru first .The Maxima was ahead for 2 gear's before the M3 reeled me in and spat me out on his 3rd gear .Fun night i must say those thing's are not slow.

Note the M3 was seriously roasting his tires in first and that was the reason i was able to sneak in 2nd.

Manual E36 M3's run low 14s stock. The are pretty quick acceleration wise, but there real strong point is handling and braking.

I'd suggest a '96 not '95, and even a '98 if you can afford it. One can start to see abused 95's for kinda low prices, I'd steer clear of those. With the 96 you get some more torque and a bump in litres. It's pretty much a car with which little fault can be found in the handling dept.

If he wants to mod it go with the 95 model.

Car & Driver first test the E36 and had a 0-60 time of 5.3seconds with a 1/4 mile ET of 14.0@100mph. I had a runin with one of these and he seemed to smoke me effortlessly.

I gaurantee that if I put a ActiveAuto Werk Turbo kit on it will smoke 99.9999% of Maxima on the road. Plus M3 owners dont have to touch their suspension or brakes to toast a Maxima in the turns. Quit hatin on M3's

I don't know about a North American stock M3 doing the 1/4 in 14.0 (Stock) and 0-60 in 5.3.... I think they're more around 0-60 in 5.5 and 1/4 in 14.3

Sorry I had to respond to d_98SE's sig

M3's are great cars, I'm not bashing them at all.

But perhaps on a "Homo Road Course" it's really up to the driver?

Especially since I passed a couple E36 M3's in my stockish maxima on a "Homo Road Course" this weekend at willow springs.

aslo their third gears are extelmey quick as compared with other cars. BMW's are tops speed cars the climb speed at an incedible rate once over 80mph. even a car with similar hp cant compare its just the way they are geared.

Dude, you're so right!! Even the 138hp 318ti is good for upper 7 0-60 times and low 16-upper 15 second 1/4 mile times. That's as quick as a stock 99-00 Si. BMW's "slowest" current car (the 325i) is as quick as a stock base TL or Y2K Max.

thats what im sayin their lower gears are somethat normal but the upper gears are geared high like 3rd and 4th, those two gears are about as long as 1 long gear. they clim to redline alot faster then even i though possible, even stock!
