K&N filter is great...

After all the problems with the dealer and my check engine light, i decided to go back to stock air filter. I was happy since everything was fixed. But now, after my brother got me K&N drop in for my B-day, I am amazed, and mad at myself for spending so much more money on the cone( same as Stillen). Truly, this is the first mod i really feel the difference. In my old car(Probe), i used to have a cold air intake, muffler, and those don't compare. With the cone i thought I felt the difference, but now with the drop in, i know it was just sound. From now on the K&N drop in, is my #1 mod so far, considering the power and throttle response, and no hassle or modifications what so ever with installation.
Just wanted to share the wealth.

No need for Dyno

I was not expecting anything noticable, since I knew how little difference you feel, after cone filter, or even cold air intake (my friend with 1.8Turbo Jetta just got a cai and it's not much more than a nice sound). There are better things out there I know, but so far, with my experiences, this is best one so far.

THEKNITE has a point. By maintaining the stock intake geometry and slightly increasing air flow, you get the best of both worlds, i.e., more torque on the bottom and more hp on top. On the other hand, a cone intake will give you slightly less torque on the bottom but even better horsepower on top than a K&N drop in. And then there's the sound of the cone intake . . . VROOM! VROOM!

Actually, I enjoy the nice deep sound of my exhaust and a subtle note of the engine a lot more than the slow(stock-like) but loud vroom vroom that i was getting from the cone. I think the cone was getting way too much of the very hot engine-bay air.
Whatever tickles your pickle, u know what i mean...
Peace

HHAA!!!!! I knew it, the cone dyno means nothing, since in reality the hood is closed and traps all the hot air... hehehe
I think drop-in is great, and just $40. Can't beat that, I bet even the cold air intake(unless with the scoop), is not any better than the drop-in.
Thank you

I had a K&N drop in and didnt notice anything. I just installed a PlaceRacing cold air intake and I am very happy with it. The low end gain is very noticeable with an Auto. Sounds Awesome!

I used to have the panel filter(K&N) about 3000 years ago. When the panel filter was BRAND NEW OR JUST CLEANED, I could feel a slight difference over the oem paper filter. But wait a week or two and the benefits go away. With the cone, the benefits pretty much last the whole time you have it installed(clean or moderately dirty)

K&N

Have the drop in in my 95 max and 2000 I30, and each time I could swear I could feel a difference over stock.

Re: K&N

But then, so does replacing a dirty paper air filter with a new paper air filter. Does it not?

Why do people swear that the air under the hood is hot when moving? I have a thermometer hooked up in my fender that proves the air gets cooler under the hood when the car is moving.

Nowhere yet. I'll need to take a look at the whole setup to see where I'll get the coolest reading.
