What,when and why- manual trans.fluid??

I'm aproaching 21K miles on my max, and was just wondering when do I change the manual transmission fluid. Do I have to or should I? Would it give me any noticable difference in shifting? And if i could do it myself, since i change my own oil, or is it just too hard to do???
Thanks

It's not required unless you tow or use a car top carrier. I would recommend it every 30K for conventional lubes, twice that for synthetic. Using the synthetic will make your shifts much easier, especially when cold and will give you a whopping .2mpg mileage increase

It's very easy to DIY. To make sure you have enough you should buy 5 quarts. The correct fluid for a 5th gen is 75W-90 that meets GL4 specs.

I don't think you "have" to (according to the nissan service schedule) until 60k miles.

However, I would change it more often than that (30k), and changing to a full synthetic like RedLine or Amsoil will make shifting much smoother, especially when the transmissions cold.

Yes, you can do it yourself. The only think that you'll need that you may not have laying around is a 2+' hose that can attach to a funnel to get the fluid down into the transmission fill hole.

Re: Thanks guys

Just like changing oil, without the filter Drop the old fluid, in with the new. Remember, GL4, NOT GL5.
