Question about VB mods installed on older trannies -->

I have a 92 Maxima SE w/ 115K miles. My tranny has never been rebuilt. I am talking with a "mom and pops" tranny shop guy. He said that if my plates are starting to wear out, then the valve body recalibration will cause the plates to wear out MUCH quicker. But, if my transmission is in good condition, then the VB mod will, indeed, increase the life of my tranny.

Also, he said that he can drop the pan to my tranny and inspect the plates to see if they are worn to the extent that the VB mod will damage my tranny.

I am thinking about getting the VB mod and I would like to know if it will hurt my old transmission in ANY way. Does anybody know anything about this? Please only post if you actually know about transmissions and not what you heard from Don's site. Thanks.

I'm positive the 89-91's do not have a pan and pretty sure the 92-94's do not either, so he can't just drop the pan. I don't see how if the clutches were worn, the effect of the VB mod would change.

Well, he has not seen my car yet. So, he doesn't know if I even have a pan or not. But, is it easy to look inside my tranny to inspect the plates? For a tranny shop, that is.

Yeah, I emailed him a while back. I guess he is so busy that he can't check his email. No problem.

Aaron call up Level 10's customer service(www.levelten.com)...they are pretty good on answeing question TRUTHFULLY!

I think if your tranny is akready in bad condition it most likely will hurt it more due to the higher line pressure "harder" shifting...but I could be wrong...

Yeah, Level Ten is a good idea. I'm glad you pointed that out. I will give them a call tomorrow. I will probably call Don's shop also since he's not checking his emails.

I know that having this VB mod installed on a worn out tranny will definitely cause faster plate wear, but I am trying to get an idea of how bad of a condition your tranny has to be in before the VB mod will cause increased wear. Right now, my tranny is in good condition. It's shifting fine. No problems yet. But, I am making sure before I do anything I will regret. Thanks.
