intake questions

i have already posted this question in the 4th gen forum but have gotten no response.

my max is a '96

ok guys...i have done a search and really havent found the answer to my questions.

question 1: on the stock intake just before the air goes into the filter the ductwork splits off downward into some type of box. what is that about?

question 2: is there any real advatage to changing the whole intake as apposed to just using one of those adapters for a cone filter?

thanks guys

That is a resonator box. Honestly I do not know what is used for, Other than robbing me of power

Just think for one second...if you put a cone filter on the end of an upper intake section you just changed your whole intake system. I understand it's not removing the whole thing, but you did change it. The SEARCH function will do you wonders. There are really 1000 posts on what people think about different intakes. I personally like the CAI

hope this helped a little. Also on top of the 4th gen board..there are some things marked important that might help as well

so its just a box...dosent go anywhere?

as far as the cai goes i dont really want to cut a hole in my fender but im just wondering if there is any real advatage to changing the pipe from the filter to the throttle body instead of just using the adapter, i just thought you guys might know something from experience...i also prefaced this tread with the fact that i did seach before posting this question....searched for a couple hours and got tired

thanks

Yes it does go somewhere. The "airscoop" looking thing at the front of your hood is where the whole thing starts and then the "ducting" goes from there to the resonator and then into your throttle body which goes into your intake manifold and then into your cylinder
