Interior Switches (Location)

Where do you guys put the extra switches in your cars? Just looking for ideas...I'm planning on installing at least 3, if not 4 switches. I'd like to put there somewhere that's easily repairable, IE - Shifter pannel, etc.

Can you guys recommend switches that don't look too tacky?

Clee - No coin holders on a 99 SE. Too bad 'cause I really like that idea.

Doh!

I don't have the link to the pictures here at work, but I had some nice looking switches that looked almost OEM. They were from a company called "Painless Wiring". I think. Cost me a pretty penny though. Almost $14 a switch. But it was kind of worth it because like I said, it didn't look out of place.

Send me an email to remind me to give you the link/pics when I get home from work.

Although if you don't have coin holders, I'm not sure they would work.

ejj I have a '99 as well so I had problems finding places to put switches. I put a switch for my neons in the fuse box area wedged in between the fuse area and a piece of metal immediately to the right. Two switches would probably fit there nicely, but for the time being I only have one. Underhood switches fit nicely in empty relay holes (that's where I put my radiator fan switch). The empty slot to the right of the steering wheel can hold small switches or LEDs, and other switches that aren't used as much can be placed in the space below the shifter paneling. I will have two Harlans residing under the shifter paneling as well as an on/off switch for my shift light/MEVI indicator light.
I also found a convenient place for a switch in a small hole in my parking boot. After tightening the bolt for the parking brake my parking boot got a small hole in it. The switch I installed yesterday fits there perfectly and is pretty inconspicuous.
Hope that helps and did you ever get your window switch working?

Thanks. Problem with your suggestions is that I still want them easy to get to...so down by the fuse box or underhood could be tough.

No window switch yet. I had to send my Fuel Pressure guage back to AutoMeter for the recall, and I'm not going to even start thinking about messing with the rest of my NOS install until I get it back.

You?

Underhood I can understand, but the fuse box is really accessible I pull off the panel with my left middle finger and flip the switch with my left pointer. All of this can be done in a few seconds and that includes flipping the switch and replacing the panel. I don't have a digital camera, but I could take a picture sometime if you like.
As far as the Harlan Rpm Switch goes for some reason it will NOT work from the ECU, but works great from the coil. I tried tapping into the tach line behind the dash and at the ECU, but both cause the tach to drop to 0 when the Harlan is grounded. I couldn't find any other '99s with Harlan products, but the 5th gens have similiar wiring to ours and the Harlans work fine on their cars. So if you have problems tapping the ECU just go from the coil.

I have two clean looking switches in between the shifter and the cupholder for strobes inside and outside the car. They were put there to replace the holes from the air suspension switches.

I have a two momentary switches underneath the fuse panel for the valet on my alarm and alarm chipper switch.

Another momentary on the side of the dash near the ebrake for the O/D button.

And I put a switch in the blank spot near the dimmer switch for the fog lights.

I put 1 arming switch next to the Dimmer switch, and I put the bottle heater switch and the hooded arming switch inbetween the shifter and and cup holders. They are very easy to get to if you ever need to fix anything.

For those of you with 99s that do not have coin holders:

If you take out your center console (the console in between the driver and the passenger seat) and look undfer it, you will see where 2 "holes" ought to be. All you have to do is drill those square holes out and chisel it clean. Also, if you look on the top part of the console where the holes ought to be, you will see "outlines" of the holes, you can use those as guides. After you are done with the holes, you can get the "Black switch covers" from a Nissan dealer that cover up an empty port on your dash and install the switches on those. That is what I did. IF you want, I can send you my center console if you send me yours back for free, give it that you pay shipping.
