my buddy with a I/C/E 1997 GTI 5-spd VR6 called me today and wanted to go to the track. i was like umm ok. so we left around 6 got there around 7:30. on the way there we raced a couple times. i have never been past westfield on the masspike, wow it was a beautiful area, open, trees, no one around. after passing a semi in the breakdown lane we lined up and i took off, mind you i had me and 4 other people in the car, plus ice and soda. i was beating him pretty good and around 135 he let off and i was like, look at all that road, F IT all, i'm running this biatch out. so i kept going, 140..145..150, bamn i did, shift into 6th and run coasted at like 150 for a sec and started to slow down. the car was SOOO smooth at 150 it was awesome, io know i had more i could feel it. i can't wait to run it again just me in the car. so the track was packed, my car was hot and i had some ice that barely cooled the intake. first run a got a 2.331 60foot time, ran a 14.404 at like 96.6 mph. it was enought to surprise most everyone there but i brought my helmet for a reason. oh well,. i got one more run and it sucked, my center console popped open from my launch and i got all nervous and messed up and ran a 14.9 and left.

i'm ok witht eh 14.404 because it's almost what my 14.367 was but at least 2mph faster. i know i have a faster time in me. but my top speed run, 150 i knew she could do it. everyone in my car just started calling people to tell them after i did it. i knmow i can do 155 i can't wait to try.

Theres some nice strips of 20 mile straigh highway right out of Vegas. Nice to top your car out on, but watch out last time I was there the cops were patroling it pretty heavily.

heh...saw steve's run. Steve, your main problem was that the first half of your run sucked LOL...your launch was worse than mine!!! o_O; Total Boggy Depot (music joke) for the first 2 gears at least.

my 60 foot time was a 2.331 which wasn't that bad, i could have came out a little harder, next time.

my trap was about where it should be but i know my car has 13's in it.

kratz-i was just shy of redline when i touched 150, my shift light was on but i ran for another second cus it comes on at 6400rpms. as soon as i shifted to 6th i really didn't have much left, but that was witha trunk full of ice, and 4 other people, with just me i think i can get 155. i'll try it otu soon.

What did your friend in the VR6 run at the track?

 

it was his first time so i'll give hjer the nervous excuse. he ran a 15.5 and a 15.8. should be much faster with a chip intake and catback. and i know he can drive, he's good.

Every time I try to do a top speed run I am greeted with traffic. Even at 2am there isn't anywhere left to run where I am. Hit 138 once in the 2K2 5th gear till i met traffic...

Seen 130 a few times and why did I stop? lol

Just 2 years ago I had more opportunities. 141 NA in the '98 Max

Good job dmbmaxima. I have hit 155 in my 2k1, so if you had a taller 5th or a shorter 6th i have do doubt in my mind you could hit 160+ in that thing. Anyone have any plans for messing with the 6 speed and making the gears shorter? Awesome man, stay safe.

 

How do you stay safe at 150mph+??? Has anyone ever seen pictures from Europe of cars driving on the autobahn that have crashed at that speed? Way different than cars that crash at 70 or 80mph. At that speed (150+) there are rarely survivors. I know all about the thrill and the adrenaline rush, I was young once too and didn’t think twice about doing things that could of got me killed, but thank the good Lord I lived through it. Just don't kid your self that you can drive 150+ and be safe doing it.

WTF? I think we have some major speedo error here. You need way more than 255-265 hp to push a 3300lb car to 150 or 160mph, I am thinking 140s.

 

No you don't. Please show your calculations, or what you're basing this incorrect information on.

Car and Driver showed that the 4th gen with only 190HP would go 143. We all know (or most of us anyways...) that weight doesn't have any real affect on top speed, but rather on how long it takes you to get there. It's not to hard to believe that a 2002 with more than 260HP (his is modded) will go better than 150MPH.

ya i realize that but if they tell me it's ok i will do it and my friends trust me. if someone in the car said ok that's enough at any point i would have shut it down, anytime they say that i will. like you said it's no my life but if they want me to i'll keep going.
