Does my 95 Maxima have a high speed differential?

I am having a heck of a time trying to find a drivers side drive axle. No one seems to carry the part except Nissan for $500+. I found out that PepBoys can special order parts, so this might be my lucky break. I just need to know if I need to order the part with the high speed differential. I have a 5-speed. Thanks.

What you are calling a "high speed differential" is actually a Viscous Limited Slip Differential.

No, you don't have one.

I also need a driver's side axle (95 GXE) and I was told at the auto parts store that a high speed differential and a limited slip differential are not the same thing... are they the same or not?

This answers both our questions, I think.

They are not the same thing, and they are. "High speed differential" is meaningless unless you have a multi speed transfer case. Both limited slip and non-limited slip differentials work at the same speed, low to high, or as fast as you want to go.
