got a new key made for the car.. now the old one does not work.!

well..
i have to vent!!
here is the story..

My wife lost her key a while back and we decided to go over to the dealership today and get a new one made.

$50 for the key
$20 to get programed
DDAAMMNN

and would only take 20 minutes..
rrrrrriiiiggggghhhhhhhhhttttttt

well just about the second hour there.. i ask the the service manager..WTF.. he goes into the other room to check.. 5 minutes later.. he comes out with both keys..

ok.. let me get out of here..

i use the new key to make sure it works.. it starts no problem.. and off we go..

go to the mall.. buy a a/c unit and i go to get the car to pick it up.. (i have the original key on my keychain) go to start the car.. it starts.. i notice the security light is on. and the car shuts off..
i am like WTF!! i try again.. same thing...

i go back into the mall get the other key and it starts right up!!

grr

now i got to go back to the dealership tomorrow and cuss them out!!

ok.. i am done venting

I believe all keys have to be programmed at the same time if you have NVIS (kinda like the key fobs). Be happy that your key was only $50 plus the programming charge, because from what I've heard a lot of people pay ~$100 for the key because of the chip. That's why I still only have 2 keys.

Of the 4th gens, only the '99 had NVIS. The 1999 ECU is also more similiar to the 5th gen ECU than the 98 from what I've seen as well. Other things such as the EGR were changed, but most people don't really seem to notice.
