Cold Air Intake : Yeah or Nay

Hi there,
I got a 97 se and the engine is in really good shape.. I'm lookin at givin it a little more boost in acceleration. Is a cold air intake a good or bad idea???? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

I've heard that it actually gives better hp than a HAI, but it is a much more complex install that might involve cutting and the filter needs to be cleaned much earlier. But that's all i know...

You heard wrong. Both give an equal amount of power but in different ranges.

if you feel risking your MAF sensor is worth it, go for it. I had an intake for 8 months, then all of a sudden my MAF went. luckily the dealership paid for it, cause i went back to stock, but then the next week, it blew again. its not worth the extra like 8 hp, IMO.

If you went back to stock and your MAF messed up again ... then it couldn't have been the CAI.

Messed up MAFs after installing any intake is usually due to negligance when installing the intake.

If you get a lot of snow or rain where your at then I would stay away from the CAI and go for the HAI. Just my 2 cents though.

People have had no problems with snow or rain with a CAI installed. No need to stay away from a CAI just because of water unless you like driver your car through lakes.

and in that case you'd have to buy the Rhino Air Intake system for Range Rovers. Those things look sick.

So how much HP does the CAI really give the car?? I was just wanting a little more acceleration out of it, but if I'm gonna be fryin valves then there's no need!! We all know our Maxima's are damn near untouchable off the line, but I wanted something that's gonna pull me to 60 a bit sooner!!

I gotta tell you guys this!!!!!!! Last night I was on insterstate cruisin with a friend of mine and a 2001 or 2002 GT Mustang or whatever the hell the pony car is with the V8 in it, came flyin past me, so, being the type that likes to talk to police, I naturally floored the Maxi.. So here we are side by side at about 115, I kinda throw my hand up and you could here him gun it, so, we were off.. No sooner did I gun it, but I steadily pulled away from him, Laughin my a.s.s off I might add, until I reached just over 130.. HA HA, old boy spent 23 grand on a FORD and got put to shame by the Luxurious Maxima!! I love this damn car.. I'll have pic's soon, I'm not quite done with the appearance mod's..
See ya guys!!
Next time you see one of those pretty new mustangs, give it a laugh!! ha ha

Tell me you're joking. If it was one of the newer Mustang GT's, there's no way you could have pull away from him.

I kid you not.. It didn't have any emblems on it but except the little pony in the front so I don't know exactly what model it was, but it had the bigger back end with the funky tail lights.. I hate Mustangs and Fords in general so I don't know much about them.. seriously though!! I think he even flipped me off when I got onto the exit ramp... *****..
I swear it was a V8 though cause I could hear him slam his engine..

I just looked up some reviews on the GT.. 0-60 in 6.7 what the hell is that? A V8 sports car that pulls 6.7.. Way to go ford, i guess??? Anyway, I think I saw that one on CarandDriver.com
Do I sound really stupid saying I pulled away from a Mustang or what??

only problems u will have with CAI is fitment problems (if not done perfectly right) and a hole in your car....it makes a great sound and if you have a K&N filter, u have to clean every like 50,000 miles so i don't understand the person that said u have to change filter faster....also makes a beautiful sound when on WOT...if u check search u will see CAI's have been discussed numerous times...but i say its good...not only for the little hp it gives but for the sound and small boost in the low end...makes u sound much more aggressive and FEEL more aggressive
