Help...How hard is it to replace a broken windshield?

Unfortunately, last night while my girlfriend was driving home something hit her windshield causing a decent size circular crack. The worst part is that she seems to think it was a beer bottle, which mean some a-hole was bored and had nothing else better to do than vandalize other peoples property.

My girl is fine, but I wanted to help her replace the windshield to help her save some cash and soften the blow of being vandalized.

The car is a '93 Honda Civic DX. Can anyone give me some instructions on how to replace the windshield?? I looked at my '90 Maxima and haven't a clue how they get that huge piece of glass in there. Someone please help.

Thanks,
Kevin

Contact your insurance company. They will often replace it with no deductable, and will send out whatever windshield company they work with to replace it wherever the car sits (your driveway, at work, whatever). Windshields are one of the most-oftened made claims, and they know that crap is kicked up and laid on windshields on a daily basis so they have made it as easy as possible to get them fixed. Now.. if all you have is liability on that Honda...good luck....

believe

it or not the glass is held in place by the sealant which is cut out when replaced and reinstalled. The moldings are for finish looks more than anything else for most vehicles.

You don't want to try this at home. Get a professional. They can be tricky and you have to have the proper tools to complete the job correctly.

I live in Miami, Florida!!! She told me that her mom heard something about the insurance covering it, but I wasn't sure. Are you positive that the insurance company will replace it for free without the deductable?? Where did you hear this??

Thanks again fellas,
Kevin
