Supercharger Review - 24 hours later

It has been a little less than 48 hours since my supercharger was installed. The first 24 hours were spent breaking in the my new ACT Street Clutch. I did not boost for the first 300 miles.

***My supercharger setup***
~~Stillen V2 kit, purchased & installed brand new by Slick Motorsports in Ohio. (thanks Sang, Derrick).
~~Autometer phantom gauges - Air/Fuel ratio, EGT, Boost.
~~Vortech 3.33" SC pulley.
~~Fuel pump always on Mod.
~~Permacool Oil Cooler kit.
~~ACT Street Clutch.
~~Redline MT-90 Tranny Fluid.
~~1-step colder NGK Plugs (not installed yet).
~~Miscellaneous: new OEM fuel filter, PCV valve, gauge pod, etc.
~~Stock belts, FMU disk & injectors.

It is now a completely different car. It seems like I lost some torque & HP below 2,000 rpms, however it feels very agile past 2k rpms. The boost does not kick in until 3,000 rpms. I do see 2 psi boost at 3,500 rpms & all he11 breaks lose past 4k rpms. At 6500 rpms, I see 8+, (maybe 8.5?) psi boost...all the time.
My installer test drove the car really hard & he actually chirped the tires in 4th gear! I never have & never will drive like that.

Maximum EGT I've seen thus far is 1400 F.
The A/F shows 3 green LED's during WOT.

**Clutch**
The new clutch made the car shudder in first gear. After approx. 500 miles, the shudder is mild but still there. The clutch grabs hard, which is very good for launching, but sucks in Chicago rush hour traffic! I guess you can't have it all...

I am soooo very happy!!
Next stop...dyno...

congrats. the clutch will soften up after about another 500 miles. mine has about 5k miles on it and after around 1k it felt like the oem clutch (although with a bit more bite). i drive in some of the worst traffic (long island -> nyc) and it's fine. =)

1400 F on the EGT? That is pretty high. I thought it's best not to go over 800 F. You have the EGT and the A/F gauges? If you have the EGT, there's no need for the A/F gauge I think. Don't they serve the same purpose?

1400F is about right. I think you are thinking about Celsius.

Isn't 1400 F very very high? how hot do engines run? or rather normal exhaust temps?

That's normal temp for an engine! 1400F is where the exhaust has to be for the catalyst to function properly!

1400 Farenhiet is OKAY, it's 800 Celcius you don't want to go much over... 800C = 1472F. NA my car sees 1300F+ at WOT... when I was on the bottle around 1450-almost 1480 or so...

My 2k is at 42000 pampered highway miles, and once in a while romp... All in all, very good info for me, because I may go that route in the future...

I am running stock plugs. I haven't gotten a chance to install the 1-step colder plugs yet. Maybe that'll help a little with the EGT!

It does feel that way!
I don't feel like racing for I know I am faster than that guy & pretty much every stock car on the road.
My first road kill with the SC was a Chevy Camaro SS with a big hood scoop & a loud exhaust!!!

What are the advantages/disadvantages of having the fuel pump always on 'mod'?

If you do not have the auxillary fuel pump always on, it will be turned on/off when you go in & out of boost. When you go off boost, other people have had stalling problems. The boost goes off, the aux. fuel pump shuts off immediately & car starves for fuel causing a stalling or even engine shut off...

The cheapest places are Summit Racing AND Jegs.
Since Summit was out of stock on EGT, I bought the EGT from Jegs...

Thanks! That's understandable. I'll have to look over the wiring to figure out how to keep it on all the time.

Its to be expected that there is a slight low-end power loss...it DOES take some HP just to turn that thing after all. And depending on the size of the Roots (the most inefficient supercharger design), you might actually have less top-end power (vs. centrifugal). So I guess it's more of a driving style question.

I personally would love a Roots blower for that low-end grunt and flat torque curve.
