SC Maxima + Test Pipe

OMG insane!!

I didn't gain as much power as I did by simply adding the SC (obviously), but it feels like I gained more by adding this test pipe then I did when initially adding the y-pipe.

The best $40 mod (too bad it's illegal)

Response and power from 0-3000 RPM is SOOOOOOO much better, mid range is a lot better, and top end is a lot better. (Low end is like night and day).

Surprisingly the car is the same volume at idle, and possibly quieter when cruising. Also, when I do fast shifts from like 4000RPM and hit the throttle midlyl hard before it kinda bog'd a bit, now it just responds and zips on down the road.

It sounds a bit different at the higher end but not much. Just a tad bit more raspy, but not ricey or anything.

Before anyone asks, I don't know if I'm spitting flames, I'll get a friend to check for me tomorrow.

PS - I replaced a Random Tech Cat with the Test Pipe, although I didn't feel crap for gains after installing the RT, but theoretically the gains SHOULD be better going from a stock cat, although I beg to differ. The difference between stock and RT is that the RT just makes your car sound smoother and quieter, no power gains.

Climax, actually as I said earlier I immediately pressed log off (which clears the cookies). For a moment I thought it would be cool to post the ATTN: The New CLIMAX post under your account, but I decided that it would be better if I didn't. It's not my account and I respect that.

Anyways, where at Dell did you work? This machine is OLD! Celeron POS Optiplex with integrated everything.

Anyways, about the pipe - you can get em on ebay or at www.testpipes.com

Get the 2.5"

you can get the test pipes from Warpspeed also. They are $25 without the o2 instert or $27 with the o2 insert. Take Care

Thanks for the info about warpspeed.

Climax, I'm in building 5 (enterprise server), second floor in DWS Lab, and to my knowledge the computer has been there for quite a while.

the cookies are stored locally on the machines, not even two seperate machines going through the same proxy or with the same IP would stay logged in.

RT cat isn't really worth it if your state doesn't require annual inspection or emission. For ~$40, test pipe is the way to go for any maxima with major power adder. The test pipe I got is 2.5" stainless steel with aluminized flange.

This is interesting......

http://www.testpipes.com/media/4ebay.jpg

I would look into testpipes.com's cat. convertor material pressed in so it will not trigger the CEL.

What's the difference between the test pipes from testpipes.com and warpspeed.com?

Btw, the RT cat is useless. I didn't feel any gains whatsoever.

Theres probably not a whole lot of difference. Does the one at testpipes.com have the o2 insert? Warpspeed offers one with and without an o2 insert. Also Warpspeed offers a full b-pipe which includes the test pipe with resonator for $170 and without resonator for $150. If you have one of their y-pipes they will subtract $25 from the price. THe testpipes go on ebay for around $50-$85 so the Warpspeed one is cheaper. Take Care

i agree with everything you've said about your test pipe. nobody has stated if my car spits flames or not. doesn't your car smell like shiet now? it reminds me of my lawnmower everytime i drive. i'm looking for the carsound cat as an alternative. if i go back to stock i have to drill out a bolt that broke when i removed it in the first place. but yes, to me (NA) the cat removed feels like when i first installed the ypipe. the engine response is noticeably increased. revs are faster. i'm almost at 97mph trap speed. the bad things are that i have to reset my MIL every two days or so and it's bad for the environment. however, i do get better gas mileage. figure that one out.

In my 97 Maxima there are no sensors attached to the cat, just the bpipe and ypipe.

I have no MIL's (but like Mardi Gras I'm boosted).

Yes the car smells worse (from outside the car). However, inside the car I can't smell a thing. If you're smelling fumes inside your car there's a good possibilitiy you have a leak near your test pipe (check the flanges and gaskets).

You should only smell it out of the back of the exhaust. Now let's hope a cop behind me doesn't smell it and pull me over and see I have no cat.

Thats why you need one of these. Works exactly the same only it looks like you have a cat. Just need an old cat to work with. 2 1/2" in and out.

Of course I would only use this at the track not on the street so I could use a straight pipe.

all you have to do is reset the computer. very simple (see stickies). brianV, yes i get nervous when a cop is right behind me and i can't speed up or move over to let him pass. i can smell my exhaust when the windows are open and the car is at a standstill. i guess i'll go under to look for leaks?

My cali-spec 1999 doesn't have an O2 sensor at or after the cat. The ECU has no idea.

yup.. for the cheaper modder:

how to make a cat into a 'test pipe' (but be able to pass visuals)

put your stock cat next to a concrete wall or step or something.
put a chisel in it
start pounding away at the chisel
dump the insides out

free 'test pipe' that passes visuals

blah blah you have been warned this is illegal blah blah blah so are mp3s blah blah blah my name is in winamp so eat me blah blah blah.

I do believe (correct if I'm wrong) that BriGuy is just running NOS, he's not boosted, and obviously he only very sparingly uses the NOS, so whatever pipe / year he has is probably ok.

I haven't used NOS at all in the last 2 months. In fact...I'm planning on selling the kit soon to save up for a little suprise.

After reading all this info I needs a Test Pipe too . I'd like to use the setup lime has since I am now living in Atl. but on that same note I am kind of nervous since I have a greddy I dont know if it will get seriously loud. So I believe I saw a O2 sensor on my cat do I get the one with the hole or without the hole? This will make my CEL come on correct??

If you get the test pipe with the o2 hole then it shouldnt trigger the MIL light. It is $27.50 from Warpspeed. Also, it shoulnt make your car much louder at all. Take Care

that won't work in 97+ max's because the O2 is in the S bend pipe. what will you do with the S bend? i don't know how that will make a difference.

Jaime, I just ordered a test pipe from Warpspeed. I got the one with the O2 sensor hole. Total was $35 which included shipping, not bad if you ask me. You should consider that. I think you should get the one with the O2 sensor hole, so it won't trip the CEL.

dynoed before and after test pipe all motor

cant remember my exact numbers but i know i gained hp with test pipe but i lost like 1lb tq. hp gain was like 3-4. my car spit flames which was very cool. one day me and about five or six maxes was headed to car show and the new body style mustang with chrome rims revs up on us and the driver and his psasenger was steady grinning. not wanting him to get away with it i rolled past him and counter-revved. swafford98 said my car spit out a 1-2ft flame. my g/f said it use to spit flames quite frequently when she was behind me. in any case i have an apexi dunk muffler which with the test pipe was too loud. i had to take the pipe out. couldnt take the backfiring and window shattering noise. plus i was a little sacred that if a cop looked under my car i would be stuck with a $1000.00 ticket.

im gonna hang on to it just in case i ever go boosted or nos.

Michael shoot me an email with a picture of that Test pipe, I want to see how the warpspeed looks like. Test pipes has some they seem to be a pretty polished type. Ill place my order probably tomorrow. For $35 you really cant beat that is very cheap

You're boosted so you should feel gains at almost every rpm especialyl in the high end. NA Maximas don't react nearly the same especially in the low and and very high end. Most of our gains tend to fall in the midrange.
