Altima or Maxima?

What car would you rather have if they were both based on looks and performance, the 3.5 Altima or a Maxima and why?

Maxima. The interior of the Altima is too junky. If the fixed that, I'd go Alty

Maxima- the altima's interior is ugly. And i like the shape of the Maxima. Also the Maxima seems to have more legroom, etc...So once again MAXIMA

I would have considered the Altima SE if
a) the interior is better
b) it has folding side mirrors
c) hood that will stay open without the stand
d) HID. In Canada Altimas do not have HID
e) it didn't have the orange lights
f) it didn't have Honda looking front end

I do like the extra headroom, back seat room, and rear suspension

Maxima (The Flagship)......all the way. Interior is nicer, and it is still faster than the Alty. The only thing I like better are the Alty's taillights.
The Maxima also looks more aggresive from the front, side, and 3/4 view.

If the interior of the Altima was more sporty or more luxurious I probably would've gone with the Alty. I traded in a Ford Taurus and the interior of the Altima looks way too much like the Taurus. It's a shame Nissan didn't address the interior more. I like the Altima's exterior a great deal, but I spend more time in the car then out.

Interior of the new alty doesn't really bother that me much so I'd probably buy it over the max because it's cheaper and would give me more money for mods. If money was not a factor then definitely the Max.

You can get a stripped version of the Alty for cheaper, but if you add the features to the Alty that the Maxima comes standard with they will cost you the same, which is one reason I chose the Maxima.

its all about 6 gears baby! cruising on the freeway at~3500rpm @80mph is one of the things I hate most about the 5spd Max... useless and uneeded wear and tear on the engine

and the interior of the alty sucks

That's funny because it's one of the things I love about it. You're already almost at peak torque and all you need to do is stomp on it without even downshifting and you haul azz!

There's very little (if any) extra wear and tear. Most of that occurs at startup. Once you're running oil is flowing everywhere.

I hate the Alty's interior too. I don't have enough knee room in the 00-02's, so that's why I bought a 99 Max after my Accord was totalled.

i'd get the altima if it was priced better....... but right now its only about 1500-2000 less than the flagship.......so your better off spending the extra and gettin the max

Not to repeat what everyone's been saying, but the Altima's interior is ugly and cheap. And no 6speed. I am interested to see the changes Nissan makes to the Altima's interior for 2003.

The Altima is cheap and ugly. However, wouldn't you have to say the suspension is better?

I'd agree that the suspension is better. I happen to love the outside, but Nissan really needs work done on the inside. It's wow, look at the new Altima. Get inside and it's oh, it's an Altima
