95-99 are better than 2000+

I have a question? Why did they ever change the body from the 95-99... Those bodies are the best. Even though they dont have 255 HP im sure they could get it to w/ the same 95-99 bodies. Man and the new 2004 pictures that ive seen... if they are real... they are ugly. Thats what i think. What is your all opinions?

I always dream of Nissan coming to their senses to reintroduce the 4th Gen Max with updated feature, and subtle changes here and there. That would be pretty cool.

I like the styling of the exterior and interior of the 4th gens.. but the 5th gens have many things that are better than us... when the 5th gens first came out... i was really disappointed but the look has grown on me and the features+quality on the 5th gens is better

and in the looks department, after seeing Hoons car, Kevs car, and mingo's car in person, I really like the 5th gens!

2k2s however... haha... they look odd it will take time getting used to them especially with their hamburger sized hamburger emblem and the wierd tails

I think if Nissan went away from the cheap looking interior trim on the 5 gens, I think that I would be hooked. I don't care for the oversized WHOPPER on the front grill. I'm still hoping that nissan will take on an emblem like everyone else has. Or just go back to the name. The overall styling of the 5th gen is nice. I'm not sure about the 2004, what will they look like? I saw the questionable pics that someone took in southern cali. But I think that will be an altima, not a maxima. Usually the cars will look remotely like the concept drawings and the concept cars at the detroit int. auto show.

Yeah, I too felt that the 5th gen Maxima was a little displeasing at first. The 4th gen itself is a bit on the bland side of styling...compared to the corresponding Accord, Taurus, 626, and Galant. But then, BMW and Mercedes have always been on the bland side of exterior styling until recently. I do like the interior and a lot of the features of the 5th gen; they are definitely improvements. It took me about a year, but the 5th gen did grow on me and I wouldn't protest in buying one.

My thoughts: I think a lot of times, car manufactuers make a big drastic change from one generation to the next in their line of models made. The new 7 series BMW made a big change (not sure if for the better). But when you have a few generations of bland cars, any move to try and make an eye-appealing car will seem drastic. But then you also have to consider the similiarities. The 3rd gen looks a lot like the 4th gen...just minus the puffy-look. The 5th gen looks a whole lot like the 4th gen when you remove the bumper covers and lights. Essentially the body of the car could very well be the same.

I think the 3rd gens and the 4th gens were the nicest styling overall...the 5th really do nothing for me. Oh well. The drivetrain is cooler haha...wish the swap were cheap and easy.

I like when people have laundry lists of aftermarket parts on their sigs, and then the puzzled looks they have on their faces when they post the car got stolen and they don't know why.

My opinion is simply I want the exterior to be 4th gen, and interior to be 5th gen. I love 5th gen interior. And the new one with the navigation.

Perfect Maxima = 3rd Gen body and suspension wrapped around 2k2 engine and drivetrain. Nuff said.

3rd gen styling? eh a little too boxy for me. i like everything about the 5th gens, and the rear end look and modding availability of the 4th gens

Mmm, third-gen styling...

Standard consumer-level automobile styling peaked from 1990-1995 in my opinion, all across the board. That's just my taste though. Mmm....1994-1995 Legend LS coupe...

My 4th-gen's styling to me is "bareable". The 5th-gens...ugh...sure, they step up the engine/drivetrain, but then they ruin it by mucking up the view of the car that's most seen by other cars on the road...the rear

I don't see how people call the 3rd gen boxy...whent he 5th gen has less curves than both te 3rd and 4th??? but then again thats the new styling look for the millenium so I guess Nissan is just conforiming....

Man, i didn't know there were so many people on here that liked the body style of the 3rd gens... Personally, i think it's way too boxy and looks very outdated... Reminds me of the Stanza for some reason... 4th gens are the best in overall looks, but the 2k2's have the best front end in my opinion..... Again, everybody's taste is different... There might even be some people that think Brittany Spears is ugly

5th gens look good, the side body contours and everything. The rear isn't the prettiest but it's not that bad. 97-99 were best looking of the 4th gen, 95-96 has some of the ugliest wheels stock.

Perfect combo 3rd gen quality/rear suspension + 5th gen interior/exterior

I think the 3rd gen was the best maxima of the time and even now it still looks cool... I just like the 4th gen body though, a lil more curvy and fixed up it looks pretty mean
3rd gen quality, 4th gen style, and 5th gen engine would do me just fine

and chinaonnitrous... Larry, the hamburger I am talking about is the Hamburger that is on your stock bumper... its hella big like a Fridays burger or somethin

oh yea and my reservations about the 2k2 will go away as soon as people start fixin em up more just like my reservations with the 5th gens went away

although i have a 99 max, i believe that 4th gen kinda look a bit outdated. i think the 2k+ style is in and our style is out. after a while, you should notice it like i have. after i saw a black 5th gen se, it kinda made me want one. now i would prefer to have a 5th gen over mine... but only the 255hp one.

yes it is stock, i only said that because everyone praises the 3rd gen suspension so much when its really not that great. Yeah of course back then when these cars were brand new it was, but were here now in 2002 not in 1989-1994.

5th gens are the most boxiest Maxima's on the road, especially when compared to the bubble 3rd gens anyways...

IMHO wanna argue with this?

3rd gen looks dated in any body trim
4th gen looks dated in any body trim
5th gen looks ugly in any body trim

conclusion, the Maxima isn't the prettiest thing out there but...

3rd gen, nice proportions, 92-94 looked the freshest with the rear end styling, wheels, front grill, 88-91 is dated

4th gen, 95-96 ahh... 97-99 are nice, especially with the red/white taillights

5th gen, 2k-2k1 looks dated, but the proportions are nice. 2k2-2k3 have strange looking front ends, grill is TOOOO large compared to the rest of the car, headlights are TOOOO dark, but I think the back looks nice with the clears

Maxima should be this combo of Nissan cars...

G35 chassis, Altima styling, RB26 engine, Q45 interior

Maxima should be this combo of Maxima's

3rd gen chassis (although by now we can have multi-links at all fours), 97-99 front end with 5th gen headlights (9004 are terrible compared with the H4's (2k-2k1) or the XENON's on the 2k2's, 3rd gen rear end with fatter fenders, 2k2 muffler tips, 2k2 engine, 5th gen interior(Don't even try to argue about window switches 3rd gens, all new Japanese cars are like this, stop living in the past, your car is outdated) 3rd gen build quality but NOT 3rd gen hard plastics on most dash/door surfaces.

Doesn't matter, the Maxima will NEVER be those combinations. I bought my Maxima because of its engine, how about you? Being 16, I couldn't think of anything else. Now my little brother drives it, wonder what he'll do with it? Probably rev the **** out of it.

what 5th gens will never have is the weight advantage. once the motor in my 98 goes i plan on going all out with the engine bay area. vq3.5 stock compression forged internals just for the sake of having forged internals. modified front suspension and probably something independant in the rear if i dont go completely insane and actually do a rear wheel drive conversion mwahahahahah. ive spent a crap load of time underneath my cars, (98 maxi, 72 240z) and rear wheel drive is possible if youve got a good plan and arent afraid to go at your car with a plasma cutter and a mig. if my maxi was rear wheel drive id ask to be buried in it. for all of you who say im insane, hehe your right. funny thing is , the pathfinder drive train could feasibly be bolted right into the maximas with mount modifications, after all we do have a solid beam rear suspension a nice narrowed pathfinder rear end could fit nicely
