Is it possible to bolt up a 99 motor to a 96?

Yes. But you will probably need all the other stuff, like the ECU, the extra emissions stuff.

wondering, why?

Last I've heard all 95-00+ engines are the same. Why would they want to change the top 10 engine right? =)
just the intake, exhaust manifolds and emmission controls are diff.

Probably, but you might be happier with another '96 engine since the engines did change a little over time. '95 should also work fine. Isn't there an ECU upgrade that only works on '95/96 Maximas?

I kind of stumbled onto a pretty sweet deal for a complete 99 motor from a salvage yard..only had 5000 miles on it. Ive talked to a couple of nissan mechanics and they were not really sure. Anyway im at around 100k on my motor and i really want to supercharge...so here's my chance.

You don't need to replace your motor to supercharge it.

Yeah you could, but, uhhhh....why?!

The 95 makes more power due to less stringent emission controls; conversely, the 99 probably makes the least. Dropping in a '99 spec engine is kinda retroactive

But it's against the law to put in an engine that's older than your car. So you'd have to put in atleast a 96+.

I thought that the '97-'99 Maxima engine was a little *tamed* compared to the '95-'96...so in the longrun, the '95-'96 is a little bit faster? Correct me if I'm wrong.

If anything, put a 2k Engine in if possible...more hp and torque.

I realize that the 95-96 motor had fewer sensors and so on...but im just using the long block of the 99 motor. I plan to move most of the accessories of my 96 block to the new one. Im just doing this for the sake of having a "fresh" engine so i can protect the investment of the supercharger(remember my old baby has 100k on it now). Also..while Im screaming along with the new setup I plan on building the 96 block from the ground up.

When you say protect the investment of the supercharger, what do you mean? Protecting the supercharger? I don't see the logic in this. are you doing all the work? See the way I see it, you have it backwards. You should just supercharge the 96 engine, and build the bottomend of the 99, that way you only have to do the labor of the swapping once. I donno why you would want to take the head off of the 96 and put it on the 99, just to have to do that again. Remember each time you take those headbolts off, and the head out, you will need new headgaskets and it is recommended that you get new headbolts as well. Frankly, I'd just build up the 99 before even attempting to supercharger. That's twice the labor you will be doing. I understand that it's hard to wait. But think, the money you will use to buy the supercharger will just serve to set you back that much more in building the block.

I absolutly agree with you Shing...but my best friend is a great mechanic and a 12 pack of Shiner goes a long way!
