All you guys with duals...
All you guys with duals...
I saw how jay did it, etc but did you guys simply have the pipes custom made? I was looking into that, but I dont want to spend too much $ for an exhaust that will come out so so...also hows the sound, performance etc?

Mandrel bent stainless steel pipings with stainless steel mufflers? I don't think so.

If you don't want to spend too much, then custom exhaust setup is not going to work. Do you want something that looks good? or do you want something that actually makes HP? If you want something that looks good, then just go to Midas. They can slap something together with what they have in stock for fairly cheap. If you want mandrel bent stainless steel with stainless steel mufflers. Get your Mastercard ready
There are two good custom exhaust shops on the east coast.

I think Kooks actually have a mandrel bent machine onsite.

Insane racing uses prefab mandrel bent elbows.

I did a search for "dual" and came up with quite a few people talking about it.
And I quote:
the setup should run you about $400 at a local custom muffler shop.
4/5ths. That is, as I said, a fraction of a price.
Oh, Another one?
a local guy said he would do all the labor and piping for 100$ and i just supply the two mufflers and the splitter (1 in 2 out) muffler..
Hm ... $100? Can't be true! Do a search, you'll find tons of people who've found good local muffler shops that will not charge you $500US to rig up dual exhausts. Budget Exhaust is less than 40 minutes from my house, and they'd charge me less than $500 CANADIAN. Which is what? $20US?

Are those $100 pipings "MANDREL BENT STAINLESS STEEL"? Any muffler shop can crush bent you some aluminized mild steel pipes for cheap.

why don't you just add a fake tip to the other side... you have to know that adding a catback to an NA maxima does very little except look good and sound mean... come on people, this is not anything new we are learning here

Looking and sounding mean is precisely why I did it. Although it won't add more HP then a greddy, my setup probubly gives as much.

Craig Mack....Do you mind telling us what the total cost of your dual exhaust project? Is it mandrel bent? stainless steel or aluminized mild steel pipings? What about the cans? stainless steel or aluminized?

1MAX2NV is right, if one were to get a mandrel bent SS b-pipe into a SS muffler into mandrel bent SS dual piping the costs would probubly be around $630. And like you said anyone wanting that BETTER brake out the VISA.
I, one the other hand, have a tight budget and cant blow all my money on my car. I live in Central Florida so I don't have to worry about my exhaust rusting. That being said, my setup is a 2.5" b-pipe w/no resonator, Pipe bent and aluminized. My muffler is a Camaro V-force muffler. Aluminized. My dual pipes are 2.25", aluminized and pipe bent as well.
One thing i'd like to correct for the newbies is the type of metal isn't going to give you more gains. The only benifit from SS really is longevity which doesn't concern me due to my environment. If all my setup was mandrel bent, i'd probubly gain 1-3HP. But I would also have to shell out ALOT more money. Besides what are the chances of your mom/pop exhaust shop having a mandrel bending machine?

Thank you for the clarification. No mom and pop exhaust shop can afford mandrel bending machine. Only production style shops will have them, and they will only mass produce exhaust systems. If you do find a serious custom exhaust shop with mandrel bending machine, I'm sure you will have to pay mad $$$.
Here's another good exhaust shop in Maryland.

blah, i'm too lazy to read this whole thread but just wanted to throw in my unprofessional 2 pennies in...on a 4th gen n/a maxima...considering an exhaust system with 2 1/2 inch piping is optima performance choic...going with dual exhaust mandrel bent pipe will not yeild anymore power then a non mandrel bent pipe because now u have roughly (2) 2 1/4 inch piping from whereva on out to the muffler...if anything u will lose power no?

Duals on a maxima are stricly for looks. Other than that they have no advantage over a Cat-back. IMO the best route for a Dual setup would be use 2.5" Aluminized steel and use one muffler. Then route 2 pipes from the muffler out the back with chrome 3" tips. Wouldnt cost you more than 350 installed at Midas.

BTW, use 3.5" tips not 3"...mine are 3.5" and they are borderline small IMHO.

you are getting the whole kit.
