wiper LED question..

Alright, from what Ive heard the clear ones are legal. I live in Va if anyone knows, let me know. I drew up a schematic today to have them wired in 3 positions: always on, always off, and in sync w my turn signals. Pretty easy, just gotta hit up radio shack. Has anyone done this? Also, is there any reason custommaximas are twice as expensive as the ones on Ebay? Anyone had problems with either? Thanks for the input

LED washers are illegal just about everywhere, it doesn't matter what color, it just depends on how much cops enforce the law on it. Most cops won't even bother unless they're having a bad day or you do something extremely stupid to get noticed. I live in NY where hyperwhite signals are def. illegal but the cops don't enforce it because I drive like a sane person (or at least, as sane as you can be in NYC traffic) I asked a cop once and they verified that they are illegal but most won't bother you on it. On a side note. I almost put the LED washers on my car but decided against it. You're giving people out there more reasons to call your car "rice" I wouldn't because I too almost did it, but just to warn you. Besides, everyone has them and I know the quality is pretty ****ty, at one of our BMW meets, I saw a Bimmer with them and the chrome had completely come off. If you do do this mod, wire it to come on corresponding your signals. Or you can get cheaply priced LED's by ripping them out of the washer which is what I did.

I was gonna say, what about brake lights? I bet the cop would've been thrilled if you had asked him that.

Thanks for the welcome! My first car was a 1987 Maxima so I have roots with Nissans, and my other car before the BMW was an Integra therby giving me a import backgorund. I also hate the word "rice" because so many ignorant people use it out of context, you should all the arguements that I get into on the other boards.

Wire them to your blinkers and to a switch.

That's how I had mine.

Most of the time I had them off and mostly turned them on in foggy/rainy weather.

Re: I'm with Ben on this.

well thanks for the input. I would agrree to have flashing blue ones might be ricey, but i think having clear ones that only go on w my turn signal is a tasteful mod, not too different from side markers. Besides I feel like havin a project to work on. Im hookin it up to a double pole double throw switch. Ill let u know if I destroy my elec system

I have them wired to my side lights so they go on everytime I have my lights on. I have blue ones on my dark green max and it looks really good at night. I think all of you have gone out of hand with this RICE stuff. I never got a ticket for as long as I can remember for those washers... checkpoints etc... none.

Painted my body-colored with some touch-up paint.

And I had some hyper-white LEDs. Not ricey, but not exactly legal either.

funny how the 2 people on the forum for modded max's have a stock lookin max and a beemer. Quit hatin and let me do my thing. Do u think ure going to deter me from doin what I want. I already said i think colored or ones always on are rice, but im doin it to have a project to do and to wire it to my side markers. Id like to see u come up w a plan to do that. Ure only about the 50th person to say "rice", although ill admit the picture of jerry was amusing. So just chill out and quit hatin

i didnt post that to be an ***. i was just posting it for the humor. im not hating. dont worry you're welcome to do whatever you'd like. im not going to damn you for putting washer LEDs on your car. that picture was just to go along with the Glen Rice picture and was meant purely for humor. i wasnt calling you rice. its all good.

I'm at work right now and can't really write up a detailed description of exactly how I wired mine.

But basically, I had the sidemarker rewire also and I wired it to the front blinkers along with a switch. That way, they only blinked to whichever side was blinking and I could turn them off. Mostly during the day and clear weather. Cause... you know ... how tacky would that be to have them on during the day.

Email me to remind me to post up directions on what I did. But honestly, if you've had some wiring experience, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

I didn't know that the Maxima.org forums were ONLY for modded Maximas.

James: Take a closer look at my car. It's not stock.

First of all this site is not only for modded maximas. Many people come here for help and advice which is not related to modding.
Second of all, if by saying beemer (and actually it's spelled bimmer) you're referring to me, then you should know that I recently sold my maxima, which had by far more mods than yours.
Finally, you can do whatever you want to your Maxima. It's your car and your money, but don't get angry when you start getting tickets for all the illegal **** that you did to your car.

Clee- I dont think it will be too hard- How I have it planned now is it hooked up to a double pole double throw on/off/on switch so I can primarily have them work w my turn signals as side markers. The only problem is the switch is mad big, so im currently lookin for one that can fit snugly in my dash. Ill let u know if that doesnt work, if not I may ask u for assistance, but I should be straight.

newman and albertt- its all good- i know u werent tryin to be *******s

andy-
first off I never said it was ONLY for modded maximas although u should agree with me that the majority of posters on here have mods done to their car. I dont see why you, with nothing more intellegant and constructive to say than "LED washer lights = retard and gay." would waste your time and mine by posting on this topic. Im not sure if you were implying I am in fact "retard and gay" by having them or that the lights themselves exhibit these homosexual and mentally challenged qualities but either way I dont see how it is neccesary or appropriate. As for your "bimmer" and excuse my prior bavarian jargon spelling error, I admit it is a tight ride.(although if your gonna spend that much on a 3 series, I would have gotten an m3 for like 5 grand more) I wasnt bustin on your car nor the amount of mods you had done to your now sold maxima, I just found it strange that you would put your bmw in your sig pic on a max forum. Lastly, you dont have to worry about me getting mad at you for gettin tickets for my exorbitant amount of illegal mods (although i have absolutely none). All im sayin is its like the old proverb goes- if u dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all No hard feelings

I think the moderator should just ban the use of the word "rice" cause it is really getting annoying. People just get "rice" happy sometimes and use it for everything.

Only if people stop calling police officers "pigs". And stop calling us moderators every bad name in the book.
