AND

I am interested if someone drops out. =)
I wonder how the mounting would be for the 4th gen? One of our horns is in the engine bay. I think it is a good idea because ppl cut my horn wires when the were trying to steal my car. They didn't know I had my VIper alarm too and that scared em off. =)

Anyone????????????????

dilicari, i got it. I'll send it out first thing Monday

Prodeje79, sorry about that. As far as i can tell the horns are universal so it should work on 4th gens as well as any other vehicle i would suppose. But since i never tried i'm not 100% sure about that.

you need a write up for these???
this is truly a joke to install. this is my write up, and it's very short one....

horn has 2 wires. 1 is ground (anywhere on the chasis), second is power wire. that goes to 1 end of the relay. it comes out the other end of the relay and goes to the battery. if it's 2 horns, which it is, then 2 wire wired together go in and 1 goes out the other end. relay has it's own ground, so ground it. okay, so far that's 3 grounds (each horn, and relay) now, to activate relay, you need the signal wire. use the stock horn wire, should be a single wire, and plug it into the last connection on the relay. when you press the horn, this will energize the relay, and then the horn will go off.

my server is down, but try again in a cuople hours and my pictures should be accessible to view. good luck.

I got it! But I'm wondering... this thing didn't come with any type of switch. I would like the luxury of be able to keep my OEM horn and and be able to switch to the Hella horns at the flip of a switch or click of a button. I thought this was included? Hm. The instructions of install with switch are on the instructions but there is no switch to be found. Where do I buy one? Are all switches going to work on this? Also, since someone said using my own wiring would allow the Hella horns to be used to their full potential... could someone enlighten me as to what type of wire I use?

Thanks,
Chris

Wow! No one can answer my question?

I received NO wiring whatsoever with my Hella horns. They came in a old, weathered box that appears to have been soaked in the rain or something. The horns themselves were dusty as hell but appear to be new.

I don't believe i mentioned that the package came with wiring. I did say that it comes with the relay and instruction sheet.

As for the packaging, i apologize for that. That's how they came from the warehouse. Thus why i put it in a bigger box before i shipped it out.

Nah, don't take what I said the wrong way... I'm happy with my purchase. I just thought it came with wiring is all. And the box? I could care less. The horns are new.

What kind of wire and switch do I need to buy?

Either way, you deserved an explanation

I haven't installed one myself but i would assume that whatever type of wires you have for the OEM horns would be the kind of wires you'll need to get for the Hella - albeit just of a lower gauge i would think.

Amen. I have no clue on this stuff. This is my first car and I never got into modding my mom's Toyota Tercel (heh) I drove around in HS. For obvious reasons.

Hm. The problem is... I'm not knowledgable enough to know what guage the wire is by sight. I need a label. Heh. Oh well. I guess I could just go into the hardware store and sound like a complete dumba$$. No worries.

Don't worry about it, truth be told i can count in both hands the number of times i went to a local Autozone and had the sales guy come out to check and see what size bolts i need or what size wiper blades i should get.

Fourth gen install was pretty straightforward.

First off, it was different than the write up Polo did for the fifth gen's. It is very much Plug and Play and was very easy to install.

On a scale of 1 to 10 - it was a 2

Here are some general instructions:

Remove the front grill. There are two clips holding the grill in the top of each corner. Pull on the grill slowly exerting pressure and it will pop off. Give it a little effort. If you break the clips....black zip ties work well.

The 1997 has two horns running off the main signal wire. They are in different locations within the engine bay.

One is located right in front of the grill. (If you are facing the car, the horn is to the left of the grill. It is a round circle attached to a bracket). There is one bolt holding the bracket.

Two is located in the engine bay between the left hand side fuse box and the motor of your car.(As you are facing the front of your vehicle)
It is bolted to the bottom of the engine using a metal metal bracket. There is one bolt to loosen

The Hella horns come with their own bracket. You do not need to reuse the stock brackets. It is very easy to remove the bracket. Simply, loosen the bolt holding the bracket to the car and voila, you are almost done removing your stock horns. Pretty simple huh?

Now that you have the stock horns removed, what is next?

Beofre you can totally remove the horn from the vehicle, you will see it is still attached by a rubber connector. Push the rubber piece back. Underneath you will find a tiny rectangular block with a clip on the back side. Push in the tiny button and the piece will slide off of the male spade connector on the stock horn. This connector will be reused to hook up the aftermarket horn. This will make this install plug and play. Obviously, this is not the only way to install but seemed the easiest.

Attach your Hella horns using the existing bracket and bolt from the stock horns. You may need to bend the bracket for the horn in the grill area. It is much larger in size than stock. The stock bracket is curved.

Slide the connector over the male spade on the stock horn. The other male spade on the Helaa horn is needed to ground each horn. This can be done using a female spade connector and some wire. There are many usable grounds in the engine bay.

Tighten bolts and you are ready to roll. Hit the horn once or twice in an open area as they are quite loud.

I may experiment with running all new wires to see if there is a difference in the loudness.

If anyone has done this, please post.

Quick question, I have the stock security package on my 95 max. So does that mean when I set off the alarm with these horns installed, the new horns will go off. Or is there a seperate horn for that. Thanks in advance
Also i am intrested when another group deal for this product comes along

Just got my set. There are no wires and no switch. It says in the instructions that the switch is optional and it lists the part numbers. The switch is so you can choose to use either the stock horns or the supertones.

The more I think about it, I want to add the switch too. Here's the scenario: some punk cuts me off, I honk my supertones and scare the sh*t out of him, he gets ****ed and starts to follow me... I call the cops on the cell phone to get this psycho off my case, the cops arrive, the punk claims I started it by honking my illegally loud horns, the cops test my horns and find they are not legal, they ticket me.

Instead, I could switch to the stock horns and sound those for the cops, so they think nothing of it unless they check under the hood and see the horns and know how loud they are.

I know it's paranoia, but it could happen, might as well be prepared.
